Looking at having some cerakote/gunsmithing done to a barreled action and some bolts fluted too and send to mainland. The gunsmith is an FFL so I don't believe shipping them is an issue but can they send straight back to me once work is completed? I don't have to go through an FFL do I? I don't even know where to look or even to look at county ( Maui) or state law ? I had a savage bolt gun warrantied in the past and I want to say they sent it straight back to me but that was a long time ago. Any info appreciated including best practices for shipping, figured I'd check here first.

Short answer: yes.

Make sure the FFL sends you a shipping label to use when you ship it.  Shippers want an FFL with a FedEx/UPS account to be the shipping party, even though you are physically handing it to them.

The only time you should have a problem having the returned item shipped directly to you would be for repairs that required replacing the receiver/frame.  If it has a different serial number, you have to jump through the permit to acquire and FFL transfer song and dance.

That's my experience and understanding.
