According to court documents, plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against the state for enforcement of certain sensitive places rules for concealed carry in June. In August, the District Court granted the plaintiff’s motion and banned the state from enforcing restrictions for concealed carry in areas including, public parks, beaches, banks or financial institutions, and bars or restaurants serving alcohol.

“They basically made it so that every place was a sensitive place so that you couldn’t use it with your permit,” said Kevin O’Grady, plaintiff’s attorney.

“We don’t want to give the sense that people can just bring their firearms wherever,” said Tina Yamaki, Retail Merchants of Hawaii President. “We want to be sure that whether they’re coming to our shopping centers or store whether it’s in the parking lot or in the stores, not only are customers, but employees feel very safe there.”

They’re obviously more concerned about FEELING safe than about BEING safe.

I just bought dinner from Honolulu Kitchen.
I'm going back in the morning to pick up a whole pile of bento boxes for a funeral.
The owner is awesome. He has the green gun ok sign posted.

Some businesses stand to gain a lot from a hard core loyal customer base. Maybe we should make a gun friendly sticky so we know who to support.  :shaka:

Good idea, but I suspect it would be a pretty short list.
A good place to start would be vendors who had tables at the gun show.
Beyond that, I don't know how we could compile a list like that.

I would like to know specifically, who said that?
If that is a part of submitted testimony, then it should be a matter of public record, yes?
I would love to dig that up.

With statements like the one that lady of the Hawaii Retail Merchants Association said which is clearly anti-2a and anti-gun, she can rest assured that an active shooter has a very high chance of killing and keep killing in their "safe" establishments.  Feeling safer now, Ms. Tina Yamaki?

Had it ever occurred to you that criminals do not follow the law?  You think putting up a piece of plastic saying "No Guns Allowed" or a law signed by the governor and mayor will make you and your people safe?  How long do you think your wonderful Police Department will take to come and rescue you and your people if an active shooter is on your premises?

Remember:  when seconds count, the police are just minutes away.

Have a Nice (and safe ::)) Day Ms. President of the retail merchants of hawaii.

It wasn't Tina Yamaki, but another representative they had.  This statement was made during the hearing and via zoom.  I don't remember which hearing as the bill had multiple hearings. But they're all on the senate/house youtube channel.  SOmeone brought up Dickens and the IL mall foodcourt active shooting stopped in 10 seconds and the Retail org's reply was that.

A reasonable/logical person can assume if someone doesn't want an active shooter to be stopped by a CCW holder who's in close proximity, but instead wait for police to arrive, then that someone is OK with the active shooter murdering until the cops show up.  I used murder because an active shooter shooting innocents is in no way self defense, but murder.

To go deeper, their response was to the example of Dickens at a distance of 40 yards and they said they don't want a ccw holder to do what he did.

It would be cool if someone had a video of the actual quote. That's the kind of statement that doesn't age very well.

Maybe the real situation is the person is so brainwashed against guns and CCW that they are more terrified of a "civilian" pulling a firearm during a mass shooting than they are of sheltering in place until the "professionals with guns" arrive to save everyone.

You're doing what the Left does -- taking someone's stance on an issue and claiming their opposing opinion means they must be for something bad.  Like, if you are against tax payer funding for transgender surgeries, you must be for transphobia and trans suicides.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

The professionals with guns might take an hour talking story and putting on protective gear while the shooter is killing people like at that school in Florida.
How many people could an active shooter kill in in 3 minutes?  I would say easily 50 if it takes place during a Waikiki block party or Black Friday at Ala Moana.  If you add in the people would would be trampled to death while people flee in panic, dozens more would die and I don’t see how cops could get to the shooter while a mob of people fleeing for their lives are headed toward them.  But now, if you had 3 or 4 CCW holders in the area of the shooter, he could be stopped pretty quickly.
Happily living in Puna

Again, with regard to the IL food court CCW holder stopping the shooter, they don't want a CCW holder to do that.  Because this example was used and replied to, their opinion is clear.  They want you to wait until HPD arrives and not be your own first responder.  Logic dictates what happens to the active shooter until HPD arrives and engages.  If this specific example wasn't replied to, then maybe you have a valid point.

I suggest you watch all the YT vids from the hearings so you can get an idea of what their tone/stance is on legal CCW holders.  But I'm sure you've heard it all b4.  Legal CCW holders need not CCW due to public safety.  I don't even think the argument was ever brough up by the anti 2a that cops won't be able to ID the bad guy from the good guy.
