I was thinking about going down the path of putting a red dot on my pistol. I know that you have to train with it to get used to it but I am trying to figure out how it affects me if I get used to the red dot and go back to irons on a different gun. Would searching for irons become difficult after I get used to finding the red dot quickly?

For me, i had no prob adjusting to being new to rds. And going back to irons also isnt an issue, or back n forth.

What rds did was allow for much faster pick up between shots, which also allowed for tighter grouping.

Many "people" in the US have had to do this, until their irons handgun had a rds installed. I doubt HI would ever allow this anytime soon.

If your “basic alignment” and draw mechanics are solid, shouldn’t be a problem. What can get challenging is the focal plane shifting if you’re not used to it, where old(er) eyes don’t make that any easier. Training with both does help, as well as focal plane eye exercises. Try a bunch of dry draws back and forth and see if you notice a difference.

Where I noticed switching focal planes using handguns with irons most is when shooting carbines with RDS and then transition to handgun with RDS. Never used to bother me as much when I was younger. But shooting mostly pistol with RDS these days does make it tougher on the occasions I do shoot pistols with just irons.

I have pretty good groupings but I am less confident at longer ranges with blocky glock sights, that is the biggest increase in capability I am hoping for. I suppose follow up shots or moving between targets might be aided as well.

At least this is good news though, I shouldn't have problems going back and forth.

sight acquisition is similar. just need to be a little more precise with the red dot bc if you're a little off, can't see the dot, but practice makes it better to know where the dot will appear in the sight wndow
