I could be wrong but I think bruddah bryanhayn was mentioning George Carlin because he once said "rights aren't rights if someone can take them away. They are privileges." Carlin says we have had a Bill of Temporary Privileges, and the list of temporary privileges is getting shorter and shorter. Again I could be wrong!!

You got it :)

This is the nail in the coffin that has been brewing for years.  I hope it's not a ban.  I do foresee harsher regulations similar to Hawaii.  With Dr health checks and long waiting periods.  Mandatory regstation of long guns in all 50 states.   We need punish criminals who use firearms to the maximum allowed by law.  People that don't own guns blame the gun.  He could have Just as easily driven a car into a crowded mall during Christmas and killed as many people, we won't ban cars or blame cars.

Personally I rather have more checks and balances at this point than a total ban on "tactical weapons"

they should have had more stringent background checks and mental health checks for ages.  Almost all of these mass shootings involve someone with depression who's also hopped up on anti depressents which have been shown to cause violent and suicidal tendencies.  It wouldn't have stopped this last two shootings because the guns were stolen, but it could have prevented the aurora shooting, the gifford shooting and the virginia tech shooting.
Don't ban guns, jujst make sure you know who's gettimg them.

Being a Carlin fan, I know exactly what he was referring to.The point was that injecting humor or satire into a subject so tragic shows a lack of humanity and should have not place in a serious discussion. Gun owners are already viewed by many as nutjobs with no regard for life. Why fuel that with some tactless comment? We need to all remember pro 2a people are NOT the only ones who can read what we discuss.

Seriously? Wow.
Clearly you do not get it.

I don't disagree with having background/mental health checks, but it would have done nothing to prevent what happened this week. The shooters in both tragedies did NOT purchase the firearms used, so the point is moot.

i was just speaking in general.  i acknowledge that the last two shootings wouldnt have helped anything.  but virginia tech and the Tuscon shooting and maybe even the Aurora shooting might have been prevented.

its not totally related to these recent events.  but its something that comes up whenever gun rights are questioned.

Thought their strict CA laws would stop something like that. :(

Yes, I know and agree about Tucson and Arizona.

It's pretty clear that laws can't stop stupidity. Still, I don't see any of the events as a failure of laws, but a failure in parenting and society.

Did any of you catch on to how the media is reporting. Instead of saying "a man shot and killed people with 2 handguns", the media called out specific manufacturing companies, "a man shot and killed people with a Glock an Sig handgun and a Bushmaster assault rifle in his car". That kind of negative press is demonizing certain companies just cause the make "tactical" or "military" types of guns. Funny how you never hear " a Police officer shot and killed a bank robber with his Glock". So now for those people who don't know anything about guns will associate Glocks, Sigs and Bushmasters as evil and dangerous. Let's call a spade a spade. The gunman killed these people. It doesn't matter what he killed them with. He made that choice. He was the evil doer not the the guns.

I don't know why the new 4473 form asks if you're Hispanic.

Who cares if you're Hispanic.

It should ask if you're white.

For the most part, it's a bunch of mentally ill white guys that commit mass murders.

Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

This was horrible trajedy and my heart and tears go out to all the families.

But does anyone else think it's strange that all initial (and subsequent) reports said the AR was found in the car ?

It wasn't until the coroner reported that the primary firearm was a .223 rifle that the reports changed to an AR was the firearm used.

I know a LOT of mistakes were reported initially but it seems odd that this would come from the coroner and not any of the investigators on scene.
