Honolulu police are investigating after emergency room staff discovered a gun on a patient Saturday morning.

Law enforcement sources say EMS transported a 54-year-old man to Queen’s Punchbowl after he was involved in a car crash.

The man has two concealed carry permits, according to law enforcement sources.

However, neither permit was for the gun he allegedly had on him.

It’s believed this could be the first case of its kind involving a person with a concealed carry permit since Hawaii expanded its gun laws back in June.

Meanwhile, staff say the number of weapons showing up at hospitals is a growing concern.

The head of Hawaii’s nurses union says it’s part of a disturbing trend where patients are being caught with weapons inside Oahu hospitals.

A lot of people die in the hospital.
Some of my friends did.
I almost did.
No guns involved at all.

You have to ask ambulance driver, to stop by your house, so you can lock up your gun, before taking you to Emergency Room!

Other states that had this rule dropped it.  Too much trouble when people buy new CC firearms to make them jump through the same bureaucratic hoops for no valid reason.

TX used to let you qualify with a semi-auto and/or revolver.  If you qualify with one revolver, you can carry any revolver -- same for Semi.  Now the law lets you qualify with any handgun and carry any handgun.  Lots of instructors provide .22 pistols for rent if they don't already have one.

Hawaii making mountains out of molehills, all because of an illogical fear and hate for guns.

The CC laws are engineered to criminalize those who want to protect themselves from criminals.

We as Hawaii's leaders  ::) want to respect your 2a rights, however, you will do it this way.  Our way.

Or else.
Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

This article wasn't needed as there's a big difference between taking a car accident victim to the hospital for emergencies vs a mentally deranged drug infused tweaker.

Police could charge him for not carrying the correct handgun as it becomes a place to keep violation now.

Some possibilities...
The permits are for other States or counties

Gun was highly modified so it doesn't resemble the original gun.   Like a P320 mod

Person has multiple HPD CCW licenses and carried the wrong one.

Correct me if I'm wrong but:

HRS134-9 isnt serial # specific. So regardless, he has a valid CCW permit and under the current HRS he can carry any handgun.  It's the chiefs rules that state the serial # and qual has to be done by that gun.  So is the chiefs rules law?  If I am correct, then at most, the chief can deny this person their CCW later or revoke the current ones.  But he wouldn't lose his 2A right in HI as this isn't a felony or misdemeanor.

Let's see how the Prosecutors office/ AG want to play this one.

"(b)  The chief of police of each county shall adopt procedures to require that any person granted a license to carry a concealed weapon on the person shall:

     (1)  Be qualified to use the firearm in a safe manner;"

NV is the same way, we qual'd using a 22.  Mrs. CMO scored 98%.  NV used to be county specific and handgun specific like 2014 or so.  But then switched to state CCW that's valid in all counties and any handgun.  The OG CCW's were "blue cards".

IMHO, he was an idiot.
Had the option of carrying 1 of 2  firearms legally, yet chose to carry in violation of the law (regardless of constitutionality of the law).

What if the gun was placed on him?  His ID was run and being a CCW holder popped up.

Cops would never do this right?  Except NV Metro tried when 1 of their guys killed a CCW holder at a Costco.  Since the cop said he shot cause the CCW holder pointed his gun at him, they needed to find a gun on the ground and found nothing. Instead EMS found the gun still in his waist band as they did their SOP scan of the person.  Metro called the guys brother to gain access to the CCW holders home and was told no.  At the time, NV had "blue cards" which were serial # specific.

Two words; Body cameras.

Very difficult to get away with that stuff now with police, EMTs, Fire Fighters, etc. recording what happens on the job.

"Missing" video footage is also being used as evidence that whatever was recorded was likely not good for the person whose camera "hiccuped."

Where did you hear this?  I watch channels like Lack Luster and Audit the Audit and they never mentioned this, but instead stress the importance of recording for yourself.
