There was a 10yr study including all LEO/Military/Civie shootings on which round had the "most stopping power".
"Stopping" defined as stopping the threat.
Study showed  "altering bad behavior " was even accomplished with .22. (how many times do you want to get shot even with a .22 before you change your mind ?) but it was the venerable .357 mag that accomplished the most lethality.  :thumbsup:

357 has been touted as a great stopper for decades.
But it's very loud and unpleasant to shoot.
357 was my very first centerfire gun. SW M19
I got it from JS, now infamous for John Lennon.
I shot so many mag rounds through that thing, it broke...twice.
The last smith to work on it was Tommy Shimoda.
