Disappointed that not one of our elected leaders was there to question and defend us from these hikes.

Reasons for the huge increase? Inflation, rising electricity costs and the
Red Hill tainted water crisis.

The board is seeking more than a billion dollars in damages from the military
because of the Red Hill leaks, but that could take years of litigation.

So, anyone want to bet that the BWS will refund the amount collected to deal with the Red Hill "crisis" once the military settles with the state?

Nope.  BWS will get a windfall after taking care of the problem with customer funds, then come up with some improvement or repair work (a new crisis) in order to justify not refunding it to the customers.

Any settlement money will first pay the lawyers, then pay claims for individuals suffering from the mess, and the rest will be used however they feel like.  If it takes years to settle, and they are going to collect the money to fix it over the next 5 years, the problem should no longer exist.  Any money left for repairs should go back to the customers.

If he water was/is tainted, shouldn't there have been no water available since they found out ?
Once the fuel is removed, wouldn't that stop any future "tainted water" ?

What I see that happens often is that we meet new people who moved here from the mainland all the time at the gym.  The pattern is they move here after college cause they want to be able to go hiking, beach, running in the park, etc...all the time as they come from states that are cold.  Only to move back 5 years later.  Most of them during their time here rent a place in/near Waikiki and have a roommate as they cannot afford a place by themselves.  Once they move back, I still keep in contact with them and their reason is that HI is too expensive.
