Electric Vehicles Reliability Worse Than Gas Car: Consumer Reports (Read 1895 times)

aletheuo137

Electric vehicle owners continue to report far more problems with their vehicles than owners of conventional cars or hybrids, according to Consumer Reports’ newly released annual car reliability survey. The survey reveals that, on average, EVs from the past three model years had 79 percent more problems than conventional cars. Based on owner responses on more than 330,000 vehicles, the survey covers 20 potential problem areas, including engine, transmission, electric motors, leaks, and infotainment systems.

“Most electric cars today are being manufactured by either legacy automakers that are new to EV technology, or by companies like Rivian that are new to making cars,” says Jake Fisher, senior director of auto testing at Consumer Reports. “It’s not surprising that they’re having growing pains and need some time to work out the bugs.” Fisher says some of the most common problems EV owners report are issues with electric drive motors, charging, and EV batteries. (Note: Charging problems reported by members are with the vehicle, not with home or public chargers.)

Tesla had growing pains. Their OG models had 1 big battery, which when needing to replace after 8 years or so, cost $40K. Now they use battery cells 5-8 of them. It's rare that all need to be replaced at once.  Usually it's 1-2, which cost about $1500 each to replace.

Right now, they're still having quality paint issues often because their CA plant had to use a certain environmentally friendly paint, that sucked.  Now that they've moved to TX, I can see this issue being solved.  Tesla was the last manufacturer to move out of CA.

I"m interested in Toyota's new battery tech to see how that plays out.  They won't be using lithium anymore.

Saw this one coming from a mile away. The more complicated you makes something the more it starts to suck.
Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

There is that 1 family who's suing the biometric safe company cause their kid was able to open the safe and access the firearm.  Even though they never inputted their fingerprints. It's like a dial safe combo and not spinning the dial, then blaming the safe company.

The city of Honolulu plans to have an all electric bus fleet in 12-15 years as part of
the all green agenda.

Here is a disturbing electric bus fire video from Harbin China. I hope this does not
happen in our nation.

Regardless of reliability, the #1 downfall I see as an EV owner is having somewhere to charge it.  Until one can charge in 5 mins from empty to full, like how you can an ICE car, EV's aren't going to be a replacement.

Look at the long lines on the mainland at charging stations. It's like one hurricane is coming and everyone is trying to fill up every day.

Just like a well built building, the foundation comes first.

But those pushing this BS agenda put the cart before the horse.

Build the infrastructure first.

Makes me want to ask these asshats the question:  "Are you stupid or something?"
