There comes a time when you have to ask whether the time and effort you put into a job is worth it.  In a dangerous job where your life depends on the training and abilities of others, I can see how seasoned cops would be reluctant to remain where the bulk of the force is below-average, inexperienced officers.

Good pay is not why most Cops choose that job, but it is usually the reason why they choose a department or agency.  If you're going to do the job, why settle for a below average salary?

We know hpd is shorthanded.
Then again, everybody seems shorthanded.
I was chatting with my sister who just turned 75.
The state wanted her to come back and be a school teacher again.

Some of it is self-imposed.  They have cops doing other stuff like community relations, public affairs, recruiting, admin, and other stuff civilians could do, or contract retired officers for.  They'd have like 6 or more officers on patrol if they pulled em out of firearms section.

U should see what Sheriff's starting pay is compared to HPD.
