A seemingly random act of violence in Waikiki caught on surveillance camera in a retail store.

A shopper is looking at clothing and walking around a Waikiki retail store and then out of nowhere false cracks a worker.

"It seemed like for no apparent reason at all," said Trevor Abarzua, president and executive director of the Waikiki Business Improvement District.

The incident was caught on surveillance camera at the Original Grail store in the Royal Hawaiian Center.

"We don't know what's going on with that person. They could be severely mentally ill. They could be having an episode," he said. "And we see that from time to time within Waikiki."

A store manager who didn't want to be on camera said it was random act of violence -- after the worker told the suspect to have a good night.
"A lot of the shoplifters, they're getting aggressive," said Tina Yamaki, president of the Retail Merchants of Hawaii.

"We've seen them come out with box cutters. We've seen them come out with syringes with liquid that we don't know," she said. "So they are starting to get a little bit more violent over the last few years."

Abarzua said his organization is partnering with the Institute for Human Services to get more mental health workers to care for those in need.

"We're investing, you know, hundreds of thousands of dollars into this crisis that we have with severely mentally ill and with the houses population," he said. "And we're trying to put an end to what we're seeing on the streets in Waikiki."

Police have opened a harassment case.

I don’t trust the medical industry anymore. All they ask for is more power and money and people just keep getting crazier. Try not pumping people full of drugs and see how it works
Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

LOL.  No charges of Battery?  Maybe the victim didn't want to press charges.

Some people are grateful they weren't victims of this act of cowardice because they know that chances are if it did, they would be serving time.

Tina Yamaki was concerned about CCW holders. I wonder what she is worried about now?
This is the third story today about crazy shoppers doing bad things to store clerks.

Quote from Tina about a previous story about CCW:
“We don’t want to give the sense that people can just bring their firearms wherever,” said Tina Yamaki, Retail Merchants of Hawaii President.
“We want to be sure that whether they’re coming to our shopping centers or store whether it’s in the parking lot or in the stores, not only are customers, but employees feel very safe there.”

In order to make an assault case you have to have an injury, which can be as little as feeling pain. If he told the cops it didn't hurt then they would have made a harassment instead of an assault.

WRONG.

Assault can mean you tried to hurt someone and failed or merely threatened someone.  Battery is the infliction of injury.

Assault is commonly defined as “an act that puts the victim in reasonable
apprehension of harmful or offensive contact.” The key here is that no actual
physical harm needs to occur for the police to charge someone with assault.

Word.

What I'll bet is happening instead is to pad HPD's numbers down for "assaults in Waikiki", they reclassified this.  Some HPD also talked people out of making a police report.

It would be one thing if you were right to claim I am wrong in this manner, but to do so incorrectly in such a pompous matter just makes it worse for you.

Battery doesn't exist in the Hawaii Revised Statute in this context.

Please show me where you said anything about the HRS law regarding assault.

You made a general statement, which was false.

Hawaii changed their assault statutes by adding Terroristic Threatening in 1972.
Quote
§707-715  Terroristic threatening, defined.  A person commits the offense of
terroristic threatening if the person threatens, by word or conduct, to cause
bodily injury to another person or serious damage or harm to property, including
the pets or livestock, of another or to commit a felony:

     (1)  With the intent to terrorize, or in reckless disregard of the risk of terrorizing,
another person; or

     (2)  With intent to cause, or in reckless disregard of the risk of causing
evacuation of a building, place of assembly, or facility of public transportation.
[L 1972, c 9, pt of §1; am L 1979, c 184, §1(1); gen ch 1993; am L 2012, c 214, §1]

So, maybe you should be more clear with your posts instead of turning everything into a process of having to correct your ambiguities.

Why would I need to specifically mention Hawaii law for a crime that happened in Hawaii? You think Washington state law on assaults would apply to an assault that happened in Waikiki?

There is no ambiguity, Quiet made a speculation of why a battery charge wasn't made. From the context is abundantly clear. You are just looking for fights again. Stop trolling.
