Other counties Chiefs Rules
« on: December 18, 2023, 11:58:12 AM »
Besides Honolulu County (Oahu/Honolulu Police Department), other counties must have the same hearing and give the same hearing notices.  I think Maui has theirs scheduled.

The problem is other counties and even Honolulu wasn't going to have them until HIFICO called to say what's up. Why this is important, even though they passed anti 2a stuff in the Honolulu Chiefs Rules, we were able to have things removed because there was a hearing.  No hearing means they pass what ever they want. 1 example is the "type 2 holsters" for IWB.  Which they only have 1 or 2 makers of this and for very limited guns. Because of the hearing, the people were able to voice their concerns and get this deleted.  This hearing is required by law.

Another example is the shooting proficiency test.  It was a lot more difficult at first.  As in I would call myself a better than average shooter, and I don't think I would be able to consistently pass it. We all have our bad days that's why.  Like an athlete who's not performing as normal.

The Maui Police Department’s new rules for firearms will go into effect in January 2024. These rules are specific to General Order 303.6, License to Carry a Concealed/Unconcealed Weapon, and General Order 303.8, Permit to Acquire a Firearm.

Copies of the new rules can be found on the Maui Police Department website at www.mauipolice.com under the General Orders tab, or a copy can be obtained at the Maui Police Department Wailuku Station located at 55 Mahalani Street, Wailuku, Hawaii.

Any concealed carry weapons license applications submitted before January 1, 2024, but are pending approval will not be subject to the new rules. Approved applications that were submitted in 2023 will be valid for one year, after which time another application will have to be submitted under the new rules.

If you have any questions, please email the Maui Police Department Records Section at firearms@mpd.net.
