What? No mo dollar craps, nickel slots, $1.99 breakfast buffet anymo?

Ever since Binion's Horseshoe went broke, downtown just hasn't been the same.  The Fremont Street experience has transformed that walkway into a smaller version of the Strip, with street performers, concerts, zipline rides, and a lot more retail stores.

I miss the old-timey flavor of Binion's.  They had the best restaurant with $10 ribeye steak dinners and great breakfast selections.  The comps were very generous, the atmosphere on one side was dim, quieter and packed with single and double deck black jack tables.

Now everything is super brightly lit, wall to wall noisy machines, and mostly 6 deck shoes for black jack.  It's crowded with people bumping you as they try to walk by the tables.  More like a Station property now.

Amazing history behind Binion's.  Lots of dark stories surrounding it's failure, too.  When I walked up and found the doors chained before being sold the first time is when I think downtown, and Vegas in general, started losing it's alure for me.  Things have been changing for the worse ever since IMO.  I either have to accept the new norm, or find a better place to enjoy myself.

Thanks! :shaka:

Yesterday was better at the craps table.  I was up a couple of hundred then the table turned south.  Greedy me tried to win more and within two PSO's (Point /Seven-outs) in a row I was down $150.

I just finished doing a work-out session at the Cal's fitness room.  I like going early in the morning when nobody's there.  I was on the treadmill with my headspeakers on and rocking to a music video on my laptop thinking I was still alone in the room.

I realized there were 3 women in the room working out also.  Startled the sh*t out of me.

Luckily I was toward the end of my workout routine and quickly left after.  Didn't even bother to do the cool down.  I figured leave before they get the hots for this 68 yr. old man's body....... ;)

After cleaning up craps table here I come.

By the way, this place is packed.  Where da hell do people get all their money to gamble......

So my craps session this time ended up in the positive.  I played craps continuously from 8am and finally quit at 5:30 in the afternoon.  All at the same table.  Took only one piss break.  Standing all the time.

My chip rack was full so I started to stuff my back pockets since there was nowhere else to put them.

After that session, the adrenaline died and so did my body.  I was so exhausted, hungry, thirsty, and severly dehydrated.  After eating I just went to the room and knocked out.

Highlights of the craps session:

This one roller was making me so much money I threw 4 green chips to the stick man and yelled "all the hardways for the shooter!" The shooter won 2 of those 4 bets I made for him.  He was so happy and thanked me from across the table.  I gave him a thumbs up.

Then I was the shooter and I had a pretty good roll.  Made the guys and gals a lot of money.  Then the dealer put $250 in front of me and I said "What is this?"  She said that guy across the table made a hardway bet for you......it was the same guy that I bet for earlier....... ;D

This other gentleman came up to the table and had maybe only a hundred dollars of red chips in his hand.  $15 minimum table.  He bet the pass line and put all the rest of his chips as odds.  He rolled.  And rolled.  And rolled.  Seemed like forever.  But because he had no money to bet the other numbers, he wasn't able to profit from his shooting.  After he finally sevened out, a rain of green and black chips were thrown in his direction, making him lots of money from grateful bettors on the table, myself included.

Yes, it's funny how a hot craps table makes humans kind, friendly, and generous.

On the other hand, did you ever experience a cold table?  CCW required there.......

I used to play like that guy, only the pass line. I would miss out on hot shooters.  everyone is cheering but me. Then covid hit and I had no choice but to watch lots of YT and learned how to maximize my money. So place bets I play and I don't play pass, unless i'm the shooter.  My best roll was 40 mins and I only made 2 points in 40 mins. I hit the ATS also in that session.

Where were you playing at?

Last september at the Wynn, I saw a RSVP table and the guy had the entire bend to himself filled with all banana chips ($1K). I estimated about $250K in that rack bend. He had 2 friends playing on the other end with about $2-5K worth of chips.

That's sounds amazing.  i've only made enough to keep playing in one session for maybe an hour.  I usually walk away when the dice turn evil, which is hopefully after I'm ahead at least double my buy-in.  Most often it's after i was able to fight back to even.

it's funny how it's the shooter who gets the credit for a long roll, the blame for when they do PSO, but when you have the dice it's just luck when you PSO on the first roll!

Your shooter that only bet the PASS line is an example of why I usually play the COME and only a couple place bets -- 6 & 8, maybe 5 & 9 too if the feeling strikes. That way, when someone gets stuck on the same number, the COME bet not only takes advantage, but I also get better odds with the, uh well, odds bet.

Anyway, sounds like a fun day of gaming.   :shaka:

In 2020, NV voted Brandon over Trump.

2024 Trump over Harris.

Interesting is that Clark County (Vegas) Trump votes increased by 60K and Harris votes compared to Brandon only by 1K.  He still loss CC in 2024.

Washoe County (west NV) voted Harris, but increased GOP votes (Trump) by 6K compared to 2020.

Overall Trump won NV by 50K votes.  So even though he lost CC, those 60K increase helped him win NV.

How many people voted for Trump only because they'd made bets on Trump to win?

By the way, as I'm typing this I just finished another craps session.  This time not so good, lost $500 but had a great time in the hour half or so of shooting craps.  We were playing at the Cal where they only allow double odds.  Main St. craps tables and all their tables were closed. :grrr:

This game shows that one day you can be a superstar and another day you can be a joe biden.  I played with more or less the same degenerate craps shooters from the day before.

We all f*ckn sucked.  No matter how hard we tried, that damn 7 was lurking everywhere.

Also, the place (Cal and Main St.) along with all of Downtown is packed to the gills.  People with their children are everywhere.

I guess people from Hawaii are visiting family in Vegas and the kids are on school break.

Truth be told, I've never experienced a hot table like the one I mentioned.  It just stayed hot from 8 in the morning when I jumped on it until it started to die down around 5 in the afternoon.

My wife was texting me repeatedly, asking me if I'm hungry, and to stop before I collapse.  I jokingly texted her this is a craps session of a lifetime and I need to be brave and soldier on.

I have a mean feeling I probably won't see a session like this again.  But one never knows and I will continue to play craps until I die.  Hopefully not while I'm on a heater at the tables.

But yeah, most times my craps session comes out similar to how yours are.

For me, the majority of the time I'm just scratching and clawing to try to break even on my buy-in, lol!

But it's a fun and expensive game and I love it. :shaka:

I normally play craps as a break from BJ when the cards start cycling for the house.

On a $10 table, I usually buy in for $200 and force myself to not buy in again unless the table gets hot while I'm down to my last 2 chips.  Takes money to make money!

Ordinarily I float about even at first, then lose down to about $50 range.  Then I somehow make back up to $200+ very quickly.  If it's been an hour, I stop at even rather than give back what I almost gave them once already.  If the dice are still favorable and the vibe is positive, I'll stick it out but I keep setting minimums for myself -- if I lose down to $X, I'll leave.  That way i walk away up for that session.

My #1 gambling rule besides not getting drunk is money management.  I try to keep the loses at a minimum per session by only playing with as much as I want to lose.  i also set a limit for how much to win before I start thinking about walking away.  I don't try to win back everything I'm down over the trip in one session, and i don't keep chasing a turnaround when on a losing streak.

It's much easier to climb out of a shallow hole.

I watched a lady who spent 14 hours and $35K playing blackjack at Binion's.  We chatted before I went to bed, and I stopped and played a few hands with her again at least 6 hours later when i came back.  I asked the pit boss for a breakfast comp while she was asking for another marker.

After breakfast, I walked toward her table and a crowd had gathered.  She finally hit that winning streak.  She was betting table max and was about even after more than $40K in loses.  I congratulated her and left before she started losing again.  I sure as hell wasn't going to sit down.  If I played, and she started losing again, I know who everyone watching would blame!   :shake:

She apparently had the bankroll to sustain such loses and still have money to gamble.  Most people don't.  She was also alternating drinking coffee and beer to keep going for so long.

Those with that much cash to play with can withstand the loses until they are able to start winning with table max bets.  However, casinos win for the most part because they can outlast most people's bankrolls.  You'll be broke and asking for room and food comps if that's how you usually gamble.

I knew a lady from here who started going to Vegas twice a month.  I even saw her there twice when I was stopping off for the weekend after a business trip.  She was a heavy bettor who loved craps.  Her first winning weekend, she made about $45K.  She was getting room and airfare comped by MGM.  She had a couple of less profitable trips before the bottom fell out.  Last trip I was with her playing craps, we ran into a guy that worked in our spaces and his wife.  They never played craps before, and we know how beginner's luck can be.

I showed them how you can take your winnings a couple of times before pressing, just to try and take your buy-in off the table and keep playing on your winnings.  She, on the other hand, was a press, press, PRESS player, trying to get some big bets paying off when the numbers started repeating.  She was also a big fan of betting the hard ways.  We played about an hour and the table was pretty packed (Fremont Casino).  I walked with $480 profit.  The couple won back the $300 they were down from earlier plus another $300 profit between the two of them.  Our big gambler was at least $1,200 down.  I know she had at least twice that on the layout when the last 7-out was called.

Like Callahan once said, "A man's gotta know his limitations."  I'm sure that applies to women, too!   :shaka: :geekdanc:

Well, I went down this morning at 6:45 am to play craps and the crap table was full.  Same old degenerates I played with before.

Crap.

I went to Market St. Cafe and sat at the counter (Wife still sleeping) and ordered Steak and Eggs.  So hungry since I didn't eat last night after playing craps, just 2 krispy kreme donuts and some M&M's.

Very good steak and eggs.  Not a graveyard special.  It was $19.99 and in my opinion a reasonable and satisfying price and meal.  It filled me up.

Gonna wait until 9am.  I think they open another table then.

Since you're supposed to lose money, at least you get some good stories out of it.

I found a new YT channel Bluff. He plays at El Cortez a lot and is a heavy craps player.  And bubble craps/crapless as well. Like bets greens or blacks and presses to the moon. Then regresses.

FYI, the airport Terminal 3 now has bubble craps.

El Cortez is going to get a crapless table soon.

That is one hell of a run.  The longest session I've ever had was maybe 3-4 hours with mayb 2-3 hot(ter) shooters where those rolls took a while.  Particularly the paying out process when table was filled with money.

I never understood why the tables at the Cal were always full and Main Street less.  I mean I think I get why, but the less odds is  :grrr:  That said, I have close friends where their family loves to play craps at Cal, so we jump on. Had some pretty good sessions there.

I'm like you when I play live poker.  Once I'm on the table and in a flow, I don't feel tired, hungry, etc.  I can play from say 9 am straight to 9 pm if friends or family didn't want to go eat.  Once I leave the table, I typically am hungry, but kind of like since my mind is occupied, I don't notice.

Vacations Hawaii likes Cal (precovid).

The best long session, I was on a table for 5 hours and was even. Saw others come and go and lose everything.

My problem is that I'm with Mrs. CMO and we often have meal plans. I'm willing to play if i'm hungry, but i dont like having Mrs. CMO wait. Same reason why I no longer play poker. I don't have 7 hours to play in 1 session.

My best roll, 40 mins at Venetian and hit ATS (mentioned above). We were supposed to get breakfast, but like usual, we play a little on the way out to the strip. Mrs. CMO was playing slots for about 30 mins and came by after cause she was done. I then crapped out. That entire roll, I never threw a 7, even on the come out.  We have a running gag that when she comes by to see how I'm doing, 7 out comes.

I find I do so much better $$-wise when i travel to Vegas alone or am part of a group that has their own agenda and will let me have mine.

Being social will make you leave a table too soon, stay too long, and become less focused on the game than is helpful.  I've stayed because my wife or friend was winning which meant I kept losing after I tried to leave.  I've also cashed out in the middle of a hot BJ game because my wife wanted to eat or go somewhere else.

May have been a few times where I left sooner than I would have and it saved me from losing even more money, but that's something I'd never know since I'm no longer playing.

I find I do so much better $$-wise when i travel to Vegas alone or am part of a group that has their own agenda and will let me have mine.

So last months trip, I was at craps in Resorts World. The table was doing better than average. Mrs. CMO comes by and says "lets eat cheesecake". I said, Ok, after this next shooter. She then told me that she already bought it and wanted to sit down in high limit to eat it (they have tables to eat/drink on) that is about 15 yards away.  I ask if she can wait and she said "the cheesecake will get warm if we do".

So I left and while eating I hear cheering. Then a few mins later, more cheering. Then 10 mins later even more. So I went back to see what was up and the guy asked why I left cause I missed a hot shooter. She rolled a lot of inside numbers (which I play) and hit the tall. I estimate I lost at least $400 cause I always bet the ATS and the tall alone pays $150.

I gave Mrs. CMO shit about it, but wasn't mad.

Then later that night I was on 3 card poker and kicking as. Up about $500 and MRs. CMO wanted to go to Panera for soup.  I didn't want her to drive alone and eat alone, so I left with her. I told my fellow table mates the craps story and said if someone in my seat hits the progressive (royal flush), I'll be pissed.

Came back and had the same people on the table. Luckily, when I asked how it was for the past hour I was gone, they all said the table go cold as soon as I left.  I also gave Mrs.CMO shit about it when we were on the way if the Progressive were to hit. Basically, a $1,000,000 soup.  But I also looked at it. even though Mrs.CMO CCW's, if something were to happen to her and I wasn't there, $1 million is nothing.

Often, piss breaks also cost me money. While waiting for her to finish, I play some slots outside the restroom and end up losing from $20-100 by the time she comes out.

BTW, the RW food hall is good, but half of it is closed due to being slow.  The spots that are open are very good. The clay pot place. But they stopped serving the food in the hot clay pot as people were stealing them. There is also a mexican kiosk there named Mischa taco's or something. Super good salsas and they have the huge vats of juice (blueberry mojito non-booze).

It's been years (prob 10+) since I've been to Vegas by Vacations Hawaii.  I recall choices on hotels and my Dad typically liked Main St for their machines.  Blazing 7s was his favorite machines.  For me, those trips were either with extended family or with larger groups.  I don't mind the Boyd properties, but usually stayed on the strip.  Like you (and others), my friends and I had great comps at Venetian and Palazzo for many years after a bunch of trips where we won in a row.  They had good rooms, service, and a mix of being nearby other things to do.  Super expensive if you don't have comps.

I used to go Vegas with this one friend.  If he wasn't on the table with us to start, he was truly a Kiss of Death.  That guy I swear if he just came by to check on how we were doing and he even toughed the rail, 7 out!  We'd see him approaching and if the table was decent, he'd get the "go away until later" look.  I wasn't serious, but with a couple of my friends they were serious.

Ya, timing is or can be everything.  Especially in craps.  Have seen some wild swings both ways.

One trip I was killing time and was playing Pai Gow.  Was up and down for a while.  Then my friends came by and we jumped on craps. . . Got pounded on craps and when I was headed to cash out what little chips I had left, I passed by the Pai Gow table.  The lady that I was playing with for a while was sitting there and a ton of chips on the table.  She hit the 7-card straight flush progressive and she was like "I hit this 2 hands after you left".  I typically play the envy, so I would have made money too. . .  :(

I used Vacations Hawaii for the months they had cheap package deals and i was taking my wife.  Ordinarily I went to Vegas alone as part of a business trip.  I'd normally travel on Sunday, go to meetings thru Thursday, and have Fri to travel home.  I'd reroute my return leg thru Vegas, and I never had to pay the difference.  It was always cheaper to travel for at least a week, so coming home Sunday actually saved the government airfare.

My rooms were always comped, and I could get a comp ticket on demand at The Cal for any Boyd's property.  If The Cal was full, they comped me for Main Street Station.

Basically, all I needed was cash for playing, tips and incidentals.  I'd take a shuttle to/from the airport.  I sometimes rented a car if I had other things to do, but normally a cab was fine.  This was pre-Uber times.

When you basically get a free trip to Vegas, you can blow a few hundred bucks and still feel like you broke even compared to what air, room and food would have cost.  Nowadays, Vegas would be stripping me of my savings in parking fees, resort fees, show prices, food prices.  Even if I get food comped, the value of the comp reduces my comp point balance, so a $100 restaurant bill stil costs me in points versus a $50 comp.  Also, you still have to tip in cash, so a free $100 meal costs more in tip than a $50 comped meal.
