New PTA requirements
« on: January 04, 2024, 08:42:23 AM »
On Maui, i went in to renew my Permit to Acquire (PTA) for long guns.

I was told I must have an updated Hunter Education course since my last one was filed more than 4 years ago.

Is the training requirement for a pistol PTA being conflated with the long gun requirement, or is this genuine?

There's new laws since SB1230 passed and almost no gun owners submitted testimony to help stop it.

You can use the new handgun safety class to get a long gun or a hunters ed. But you cannot use the hunters ed to get a handgun, a new handgun safety class must be taken since the course curriculum changed.

This has been a pretty huge topic for the past six months.

I wonder how many others are going to become a little more active in the firearms community when they go to register and hit a brick wall.

Or how many more will just decide registering is too much of a PITA

i'm kinda anxious to see how the new Psych, Medical requirement is going to pan out.  The older you get, the more doctors you visit.  getting old sucks.

Maybe Maui is more "common sense" than  Oahu.

There are ways to acquire a firearm without getting a PTA and registering,, but it would involve a trip to a free state.  Bringing it into Hawaii would be illegal without registering, but I know people who don’t care.

It is sad, but unjust laws force people  to just not give a shit anymore.

Question:  There was wording in the registration requirements that said it is not mandatory to register long guns that were acquired before 1995 or was it 1993.

Does this hold true or does Jan1 2024 throw everything out the window with the new and fascist rules?

I'm asking for a friend.....

The year was 1994.
I know a old guy here about 80 that has over 60 long guns.  All acquired previous to the 1990s and none of them registered.   Tight buggah no like sell any.
