You can also practice on reduced sized targets, scaled for further distances. Lots available and many competition shooters use. I have a bunch of reduced IPSC targets if you want to try.

Thanks for the advice!

"  I use the NRA B-8C(P) target   "

   Recommend using a silhouette target.
Our B-21 is down hallway to office wall, 3' to 50' distance.

SANE Humans instinctively, logically and morally have natural inhibitions about killing, (Luke Brian "Most people are good").
Ya gotta admit that there's something wrong with you if you WANT to kill.

Look at stats from WW1 and WW2  compared to Korea and Vietnam era where the target was no longer a circle but changed to a silhouette.
Historically, WW's had less soldiers even firing their weapons than future conflicts.
Yes I researched it, you can too !
The key to conditioning is through desensitization in training. (Please see mass / criminal shooters gaming history)

SIRT has to be one f the best training devices I've acquired.

Will I fail your class if I point shoot  :(

Only if you do not shoot a passing score.

Relatively speaking, "most altercations" happen within 3 yds.
To draw, marry, elevate, acquire sight alignment, sight picture and press trigger in adequate time at that distance to "alter bad behavior" would take plenty of practice and skill to accomplish.

Point shooting is a instinctive threat focused technique.
How much more self defense oriented can you get ?
I practice it with the SIRT all the time, as well as on the range.

My last proficiency performed with an .38 Airweight was all point shooting until the 15 yd line.
