Does anyone sell ammo for the 6.5 Grendal? What's the cost on the ammo?

Do you already have the 6.5 Grendel rifle? Do you reload? If you already have the rifle then just ignore the rest of this post. But if you have not yet purchased the rifle/upper then you might want to consider the 300 Blackout over the 6.5 Grendel. I realize that the 6.5 Grendel is about as powerful a cartridge you can get in an AR-15 rifle. But, if you reload you can make your own cases for the 300 Blackout from .223/5.56 cases which are common and cheap using the .300 Blackout sizing die. This will save you considerable money over purchasing already loaded 6.5 Grendel and 300 Blackout cartridges. Just a suggestion.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm interested.  I'm guessing I can't use... say a stock Colt 6940 with a 300 Blackout?  Would I have to just buy another complete upper to shoot the 300 Blackout?  I can use the same PMags or G.I. mags right?

I would guess that you have to get a complete upper... Not sure if the 300 blackout rounds will fit down he barrel much less use the same bolt or bolt carrier... That's my guess but I could be wrong...

I was reading the Alexander Arms site about the Grendel and the upper said its 223 compatible....  But if the ammo is unavailable locally or too damn expansive (since I don't reload) i might say for get it cause ammo is only going to go up on price...

I am not sure you can use your Colt 6940 lower with a complete non-Colt 300 Blackout upper. The Colt lowers often have different pin sizes and are slightly different. If the pin sizes are all that are different then you could possibly mount a complete 300 Blackout upper on your lower. You need to research it. The complete upper includes the bolt and other items unless you can build the complete upper yourself. Yes, the idea behind the design of the 300 Blackout, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, 458 SOCOM, 50 Beowolf, etc is to use stock AR-15 lower and magazines. Just pop on a complete upper (and possibly change out the buffer/spring) and you are supposed to be good to go. While I have not attempted this yet, I am doing my research and I will be taking the plunge for the 300 Blackout and/or the 6.5 Grendel upper soon. Depends on my financial situation.

i'm pretty sure you can use any di ar15 for 300blk as long as it follows mil spec tdp.  Just gotta change out the barrel because the bullet is .30 cal diameter.  The bolt should stay the same because it essentially uses the same size casing as .223 except not necked down as much because of the larger bullet diameter. Everything, including the magazines remain the same as a .223 rifle.  If you guys watch travis haley's video on 300blk, it actually puts out more energy at the muzzle than 7.62x39...according to him anyway  ;D.  Overall i think it's an interesting caliber that i'd probably definitely get into if i reloaded.

Thanks for the info.  I'll probably take the plunge once I do more research.
