This isn't news.

Congress critters vote along party lines for almost all national issues.  They MAY vote in opposition of their handlers if the issue is local to their state/district.

i've actually seen a copy of the monthly "issues" packet the DNC sent to a former HI representative.  It contained schedules of photo ops, talking points to hit on if they get to speak (no wonder it sounds like everyone from the DNC is a parrot), and what positions the party takes on the bills coming up for a vote -- falling just short of telling them how to vote, of course.

All scripted -- no need to ask a "staffer" what their position was on a topic.  If the party voted against a given issue, it's 99.99% certain they all voted against it.
