Do the Native Hawaiians even know what they want? And how they want to govern themselves?
Please go to YouTube and watch the US Department of Interior hearings when they came offering Aboriginal Hawaiians federal recognition. Aside from Hawaiian sell-outs who depend on federal monetary handouts (e.g. OHA and similar organizations), it was loud and clear what Hawaiians wanted; the de-occupation and restoration of the Hawaiian nation state.
As for governance, the restored Hawaiian nation state would fall back on the Hawaiian Kingdom Constitution of 1865 for initial guidance and would need to immediately pass the necessary amendments relevant to life in the 21st century.
It seems there seems to be differing views even amongst Native Hawaiian groups.
There are two basic camps for those Hawaiians still living in Hawaii.
1. Hawaiians that do not want their nation back as long as they continue to get US imperial monetary handouts.
2. Hawaiians that want nothing to do with the US empire, its's debts, wars, etc. and to de-occupy Hawaii, ASAP.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that way every time the issue comes up. There always seem to be disagreements between different groups.
See above.
