Do you own shares of gun companies?

I'm not a huge player in the stock market (Gotta have money.), but I was wondering if you own stocks in the companies who manufacture firearms. Any you recommend? During this time, do we buy, hold, or sell?

I did a little research and found a lot of gun companies are privately owned.

Sturm, Ruger & Company (NYSE:RGR) $43.78
Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation (NASDAQ:SWHC) $8.25
FORJA TAURUS-PN N2 (SAO:FJTA4) $2.90

Glock is privately owned.
Freedom Group, Inc (Remington, Marlin, and Bushmaster) is privately owned.
Bushmaster Firearms International, LLC   Private
Savage Arms, Inc.   Private
Taurus International Manufacturing, Inc.   Private
Colt Defense LLC   Private
Springfield, Inc.   Private
Browning Arms Company   Private
RSR Group, Inc.   Private
Remington Arms Company, Inc.   Private
Fabbrica D'Armi Pietro Beretta S.p.A.   Private
Beretta USA, Corp.   Private

There are reasons why companies are public. I recommend looking at the companies fundamentals, market trends etc. I believe Ruger also manufactures golf clubs as they have an extensive casting ability.
I think it is rather volatile now since sales would be influenced by whatever legislation is passed - do you want to bet for the firearms industry? Then buy. If MagPul was public I'd buy a block
On second thought, the real money to be made is buying cases of PMAGs at their pre-panic price of $13 and selling them for 3 times that. We are only screwing ourselves - people are buying, turning around and reselling them http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_7/24_.html How many NIW PMAGs we got there?

Imagine all this money being spent. We gun owners sure have a lot of it! We should be spending more to defend our rights instead of accepting a ban. Did we give up? I just payed out my NRA Life.

It seems the market has also beaten down the gun stocks here lately due to their fear that a ban is coming and that it will hurt the gun companies. A month ago Ruger was around $60/share and now it is around $43/share. If you feel a ban won't be enacted it may be a good time to buy because the stock has been beaten down almost a third. If you feel a ban will be enacted then the price may already have the ban built in. It may still be a good time to buy if you think long term prospects are good. Either way you are still gambling with your money. The stocks can still go down for any number of other reasons. So don't take what I said as a buy signal.

I used to play the market and I day traded a bit back when I was younger. The market has too much volatility for me now. I no longer have the balls to play the market any more. I am getting too close to retirement to lose what little I have.

I don't have the inclination or knowledge to try to "play" the stock market. Also don't have any money. I do have some retirement savings, so I am much more of a buy and hold guy. I look for stocks in reputable companies with decent dividends. CostCo has been my biggest winner so far. My only loser, and an exception to the dividend rule, has been Ford, thanks in large part to the bailouts of GM and Chrysler.

Anyway, I took the plunge and bought a few shares of Ruger. Hope it pays off in forty years!

Good luck.

Thanks! with a 3.5% annual dividend yield, if the price holds still, it's better than a savings account! :)

Not telling you what to do but I would suggest putting in a sell if the price drops 5%. That will lock in your profits and you can buy back in once the price stops dropping. And you won't lose your profits or your original investment!
