Magnum Firearms not selling 30rd Pmags unless you're LE or military? (Read 9699 times)

I called today and they said you have to be active military or law enforcement to purchase the 30rd Pmags. Was this always the case or are they just reacting to the maniac in Connecticut?

I purchased a handful about two weeks ago from OGC, so what's the deal?

They have been like that for awhile now. They say that technically they are illegal but that the state does not in force it.
Young Guns is the same way.

I can understand their perspective as their biggest clients is/was LE.

"the deal" is that, as discussed here often, those mags are illegal under Hawaii law. The owners aren't willing to rely on the continuing blind eye of HPD or the state prosecutor.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

I guess I'll ask my brother -  who's a cop -  to see if he'll pick some up for me.

I wouldn't publicize that.

Well, as you can see from by post count, I'm new to this forum. I just thought it was odd that OGC had dozens of them for sale and Magnum treats them as contraband.

on the other islands they are sold freely it would be so hard to prosecute because of how horribly the law is written  ... from BusLaw 251 vagueness in a law/contract favors the party who has the term/conditions implemented on them and/or the party who did not create the law/contract. The citizen with the 30 round A.R. magazine would be that individual. Now if you committed some horrible atrocity with your rifle and the Standard capacity magazine they would probably slap it on top.... but it would likely be thrown out and appeals if not during the case

plus there on the lower spectrum of quality firearm dealers. Their overpriced, utilize insane scare tactics and make up random crap (such as confiscation of all firearms) just to make an extra sale they show a continued lack of ethics and they're overpriced... Did I mention they're overpriced....   the only thing they really have going for them is the shooting range and that is overpriced. ..... Yes I've heard of a few individuals getting great deals from them but I seem to be missing all their sales.... Just my opinion take it with a cup of salt

Kaneohe Gun Shop and OGC Tactical are the only places i've seen 30 rounders for sale.  granted, never been to Xring, or others, but SEC and Young Guns havent sold 30 rounders as far as i remember.

now with the magazine panic buying, i took advantage of getting some USGI mags.  gotta swap the followers out, but once i do, im golden.

oh, and when nothing happens, just go buy your pmags then, when they're back down to 15 bucks.  i heard from a friend in the marshal service that Obama's "call for meaningful change" has nothing to do with magazine bans or Assault Weapons bans, but just closing gun show loopholes and some mental health shit.  aka, good common sense that shouldnt affect any of us.

granted, Feinstein is still going to introduce an Assault Weapons ban in congress, but she shouldnt hold her breath based on needing to change the minds of 23 Republican representatives, in addition to a couple of democrats who have said that while they would like a discussion on the issue, they wouldnt support an assault weapons ban.

I disagree with your conclusions. The statue, while horrible in concept, is not "horribly written" to the extent that one charged under HRS 134-8 would be able to argue vagueness as a defense. It is actually pretty clear and in addition, we appear to have a Deputy Prosecutor that has written an opinion on the matter.....here is the wording? What, in your opinion, is vague or otherwise "horribly written?"

Quote
(c)  The manufacture, possession, sale, barter, trade, gift, transfer, or acquisition of detachable ammunition magazines with a capacity in excess of ten rounds which are designed for or capable of use with a pistol is prohibited.  This subsection shall not apply to magazines originally designed to accept more than ten rounds of ammunition which have been modified to accept no more than ten rounds and which are not capable of being readily restored to a capacity of more than ten rounds.
(d)  Any person violating subsection (a) or (b) shall be guilty of a class C felony and shall be imprisoned for a term of five years without probation.  Any person violating subsection (c) shall be guilty of a misdemeanor except when a detachable magazine prohibited under this section is possessed while inserted into a pistol in which case the person shall be guilty of a class C felony. [L 1988, c 275, pt of §2; am L 1989, c 261, §6 and c 263, §4; am L 1992, c 286, §§3, 4]
