Makaha resident Austin Salcedo asked the mayor about being more proactive in fighting crime. Blangiardi responded that the community should do more.

“I’ve been out here now, multiple times on neighborhood watch walks. Why isn’t the community doing more?” said Blangiardi. “The police can’t do everything. So why don’t you guys deal with?”

One person in the crowd reacted angrily, but the mayor added, “I believe in taking back your community.”

Yes you heard that. After he disarmed you - he wants you to "take back your community". Perhaps with harsh language to criminals?

Perhaps no one asked the criminals.

"Could you please stop committing crime?"

We pay our taxes for a police force and the mayor asks why aren't we doing more?

Maybe you mayor, and your goons should do more.

You said the police can't do everything.  I presume that means police can't be everywhere.  Well, stop walking and start running you fackahs.

And if you haven't already, take those two officers standing in front of your office and throw them back out into the streets.  Stop wasting our tax monies.  You want us to do more?

Then protect your own ass like the rest of us have to.

The Mayor is a moron.

Effective policing is a partnership between police and the communities.  The Cops & Mayor can't put the responsibility for preventing crime on the public especially when the government does everything it can to stop or slow-roll the ability of the people to legally arm themselves.

There are cities and towns that had rising crime rates, so the solution they chose was to make it really easy to purchase & carry firearms.

Ohio sees drop in gun crimes across
major cities after permitless carry law,
study shows

Quote
Contrary to concerns from some local leaders, a new study shows a decrease
in gun crimes across six of Ohio’s eight largest cities following the implementation
of the state’s “constitutional carry” law.

The research, conducted by the Center for Justice Research (CJR) in partnership
with Bowling Green State University, analyzed data from June 2021 to June 2023,
covering a year before and after the law went into effect in June 2022.

It focused on crimes involving firearms, verified gunshot-detection alerts, and the
number of officers struck by gunfire.

The findings revealed:
  • Overall Decline: Across all eight cities, the rate of gun crimes decreased.
  • Significant Drops: Parma experienced the most significant decline (22%),
followed by Akron and Toledo (both 18%).
  • Mixed Trends: Dayton and Cincinnati saw increases in gun crime rates (6%
    and 5%, respectively).

“This is not to downplay the very real problem of gun violence in our cities,” noted
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, who commissioned the study. “But the key
takeaway here is that we need to focus on criminals, not responsible gun owners.”

The article focuses on "gun crime," but I think it's reasonable to assume that all violent crimes were down, too.

Some neighborhoods are mostly full-time workers, which means there aren't people in many homes to watch over their neighbors.

Precovid, I would see the Chinatown neighborhood watch in their florescent green shirts with at least 1 officer, sometimes 2 or 3.  Since then, zero.  And almost all the time, the community members are grandparents age.

Yes he is an absolute moron. He tells us the public needs to do more while restricting the rights of
law abiding citizens and driving a wedge between the law and the law abiding.

He needs to hold more town hall meetings in order to inform the public about what a dirt bag, A hole
he truly is.

His officers are armed with guns, tasers, handcuffs, batons, and are trained both mentally and physically.  (supposedly....) ::)

Anyway, he asking us to go out there bolo-head.  With just our hands and feet.  And then risk retaliation when his officers leave to go eat manapua or malasada.

At least give us the option to protect ourselves other than with our hands and feet.

Right now I gotta do the Aloha Spirit and ask the braddah that wants to rape, rob, or kill me to wait until I go into my house.  Then tell him he can now break into my house where I can somewhat legally cap his fricken ass.

Right now, in my opinion, the current CCW laws in Hawaii are not your friend.
