Wow so I'm I able to buy guns from the CMP?  Just have to transfer it right?

I got the 1917 from Big Al at Ready on the Right.  I called him because I was in a bidding war online, and suspected the price was exceeding the value of the gun.  Not only was I right, turns out he had one in stock!

The CMP ships via FedEx.  However, the shipping prices are actually quite reasonable... seems they get one MAJOR discount from the overnight guys!  I only wish the same applied to other outfits.

CMP also sells .30 carbine and .22 ammo, although at nowhere near the savings as their .30-06.  And, of course, they sell rifles.  Currently have Garands and M1 Carbines in stock.

Packages from CMP come directly to you.  If you are ordering a gun, just take it straight to HPD as an out-of-state purchase.  You have to jump thru a few hoops for them regarding paperwork, but once you've done that, you're golden for 3 years.

The downside to CMP is that it takes them months to process your order.  Months.  It's averaged about 3 months for me, but people have reported longer waits.  Which makes planning for the future a little risky.  If you're off-island when they notify you that the order has shipped, you're kinda screwed.  FedEx will only attempt delivery 3 days, then they ship it back.  And, of course, someone has to be there to sign for it.  I've taken more than one day off of work just to sit and wait for the FedEx guy with my rifles or ammo.

Tom, does Al stock guns?

Al handles consignment sales.  So, his "stock" is pretty much exclusively things that other people are trying to get rid of, and is thus somewhat variable.  He runs the business from his home, which isn't really set up for browsing.  The best bet is to call him up and ask what he's got, or tell him what you're looking for, before you head to Kailua.  Also, since the guns aren't his, there is no negotiating on price.

He also handles receiving and shipping firearms.  For receiving, he only charges what the Feds charge him to register the gun, which is under $30.  He's my FFL of choice when I do online auctions.

Does anyone know how to adjust the elevation on the iron sights?  I know to adjust the left and right there is the knob on the right.  Gun is shooting top right corner.

Elevation is adjusted by simply sliding the aperture up or down slope.  The spring on mine is a little loose, so when I have it set for longer ranges, recoil tends to make it migrate between shots.

I'm pretty sure that the lowest elevation on the a3 is 200 yards.  So, if you're a little high at 100, that's probably correct.

Sweet looking gun, btw!  Barrel from 1948, right?

Sorry about the pick of the barrel, the camera sucks.  The actual marking are 4/43.  I cant wait to go back and shoot the 03A3 agian, maybe next week wednesday.  Anyone going?  Thanks for all the kudos, I always wanted a 1903, not i just need a M1, and M1 carbine.

Depending on how my experience with my 1917 goes tomorrow, I could be up for a repeat visit to the range Wednesday!

In the first episode of Top Shot last night and they were shooting a 1903  along with a Mosin-Nagant, SVT-40, and a M1A they called an M14.
