LPVO's brightness and tradeoffs
« on: July 06, 2024, 08:18:43 AM »
This video covers the tradeoffs of different types of LPVOs.  Different dot brightness.  The tradeoffs between good reticles/bright dots/good battery life and why you can't have all 3.  And first or second focal plane use cases.

One point I disagree with is only needing to use max magnification on a LPVO.  The midranges are useful when you need some magnification, but still need field of view, but I suppose that would be a niche case in real life.

I had a 1-4x on my AR then I went straight red dot. I could snap shoot on 1 power ok but I think I got slightly better times on a regular red dot. I do sometimes miss the magnification and contemplate adding on a flip up magnifier. Not sure if it is worth it though, I don't need that kind of magnification for most shots i would need to take. The target identification is nice though

Ive been wanting one from the start and still have the space on my rail for one, but didn't find a need for one for normal shooting, 100 yards max.  I could've cut a couple seconds off my 2 gun time if I had one against a rack of scaled down targets at 35 yards.

Probably get one eventually.

I have one AR with 1-8 and the illumination is red dot bright. At 1x, it’s close to as forgiving as Aimpoint and EoTech RDS. I’ve shot a couple of rifle courses with it and the weight is one negative for me.

I don’t watch many of Hop’s videos, but he does often have good points, usually to his context and needs. I’ve shot the Vortex Razor SFP and I was close to getting one.

The 1-8 is definitely fun and useful for shooting in the 300+ yard range, but don’t get to shoot on those ranges often.

this one is pretty bright, not a true 1x and not as fast as an Aimpoint RDS.
