I personally doubt that all the old timers who legally possess unregistered rifles they acquired way back in the 1960s/70s or earlier will be jumping to register them, providing this type of proposed legislation becomes law. I would imagine many will but I have a hard time believing they all will, even if it becomes illegal. Just the way many from that generation are wired. JMHO

This is the first step toward total disarmament. "Their" studies show a decrease in violence during the ban. I'm curious to see if that increased when the ban sunset in 2004. Does anyone have any stats on that? I haven't seen any stats as of yet so I'd bet that there probably was no meaningful increase otherwise that's all we would be hearing from the anti-gunners.

They never quote studies about crime rates and relationships to gun ownership rates and gun restrictions, like an FBI study that IIRC appears to indicate low crime rate (I believe violent crimes, burglary, etc) in areas with high gun ownership rates and minimal gun ownership restrictoins/laws.

I also thought that there were studies that indicated increases in crime rates in Australia and Great Britain after implementation of gun bans there.

I'd have to look up the references for all of them, but that's what I recall of the top of my head.

All the legitimate research (FBI, DOJ, etc) done said it had positively no effect whatsoever on crime, either during the ban or after its expiration.  That's why she's quoting that Urban Studies outfit, or whatever it was.

Jeffrey Roth and Christopher Koper find that the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban was responsible for a 6.7 percent decrease in total gun murders

funny, at around 8000 gun murders per year, 6.7% is 536.

we dont even have 500 TOTAL rifle murders every year.  good job, dumbasses.

That's exactly what I recall too and if it's not from a creditable source, it has no merit in my view.

wait, that's basically EVERY semi auto weapons.  ONE characteristic?  that means any pistol grip is instantly illegal.  if it has EITHER a folding/adjustable stock OR a pistol grip, it's illegal.  awesome.

so basically every single rifle that isnt a Bolt action, a 10/22, and M1A or a Mini 14 is going to be instantly banned.

this is great news, imo.  i cant see this passing congress.  that's going to put way too many people out of a job.

if it SHOULD pass, i think this is the worst part.

So.... if total disarmament going to happen, that would possibly lead to civil war right? Technically there would be no USA and any state can declare themselves a free country?

"In order a society to function, there must be laws, in order for laws to work there must be enforcements for those laws." My economics teacher said that if I remeber correctly.

But who will start the civil war.

If you don't like the results make up your own...

I am curious, if Government officials are refusing to acknowledge government agency provided results, are they also implying Government agencies can't be trusted?

I've seen similar studies but the problem is violent crime and even gun related crimes comprise all firearm related incidents and I believe hand guns are the leading weapon used in these crimes, not assault rifles. It's just the public focus is mass murders involving AWS because that is what the media spins.

I'm suprised one of the banned characteristics wasn't if the firearm was black!

if this goes into effect here, how does the ban affect the Range? will we be still able to shoot our "assault weapons" that were grandfathered in at the range?

Funny (not really ha ha funny) you should say that because in BO's neck of the woods (Chicago) they are hitting their 500th murder.  More than since 4 years ago.  Looks like their extremely anti-firearms laws are working well.
