Hawaii Primary Choices who has the capacity to beat Mazie Hirono? (Read 3276 times)

Westside_Redneck

I just received my mail-in primary ballot today, and I want to hear from you folks on the forums if you can provide any insight into the candidates running for the Hawaii Senate seat that's currently occupied by Mazie Hirono (I f***ing hate her!)

More info on the candidates and their parties here
https://ballotpedia.org/Hawaii_elections,_2024

Does anybody think Bob McDermott or Adriel Lam have a shot in the general election later this year? As always, I will vote based on who closely aligns with my values first. But I do not want to waste my vote on somebody who does not have a chance at competing against, let alone unseating, Hirono.

Any insight you may have on other the candidates is appreciated as well. I posted this thread for folks who don't have the time to research every candidate but want to vote in the primaries. Unfortuanely, not everybody has a website or a post online where you can read their stances on the issues.

Hawaii Rifle Association (HRA) used to put out a cheat-sheet of their endorsements.   didn't see it on their website (yet).  maybe they don't do it for the Primary.   ???

I don't see anyone that would be competitive.  They would need widespread name recognition, like from prior political office or celebrity.   And they need to be a very moderate Republican like Fevella, or a conservative Democrat like Ed Case.

Bob McDermott has name recognition but too conservative to win.

One thing I've noticed in Hawaii elections is the voters are averse to change.

Rather than recognize that the incumbent is ineffective or incompetent, the voters tend to go with the person who already has the job, not with someone who isn't there yet.

I've actually seen some state they feel bad voting someone out of a job.  What is she going to do now?  Oh, poor Mazie.

Vote that damn Bozo out of office...... :grrr:

Talk about somebody holding that office and wasting taxpayers money.

Even her peers think she's an idiot.

Yeah, every time she's shown speaking in a hearing, it's a complete embarrassment -- to the state in general, the voters who put her there and the rest of us.

I have theorized, and I have read others state this same sentiment on Civil Beat, that the Apathy Party is the true party that controls Hawaii's political scene. As there are more Apathetic non-voters than there are actual voters. Last election cycle that brought us #immadoctor #kissblueass Green, only 32% of the overall registered population of the state actually voted. The last time we had a higher turnout of registered voter participation was when Linda Lingle was elected (thanks to Maui voters I'm sure).

My point is that with the high population of Apathy folks, this creates a vacuum that the Dems exploit every cycle. Like you said Flapp, they tend to stick with the same bad people who aren't held down by term limits until they either die or retire because they would rather "play it safe".

Yeah, every time she's shown speaking in a hearing, it's a complete embarrassment -- to the state in general, the voters who put her there and the rest of us.

Exactly the reason I would like to see her gone from the Senate! I would never forgive her for her comments made during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings!  :grrr:

They are protecting their own, just like how they have protected joe for 3 1/2 years.  Now that the cat's out of the bag, they will kick joe to the curb.

In hawaii, they won't kick bozo maizie to the curb.  They will give her another term.

met both candidates at a session. Both don't have a shot at the deeply entrenched established Democrats in Congress. It's not they are not strong candidates its because they listen to the People. Dems are more focused on gaining and maintaining power.

Lol I read that choice too, my first thought was this has to be an AI generated non-person placeholder choice.

Yeah Hawaii's ruling Dem Class is a cheap $2 whore for the Federal DNC establishment. They will kiss anyone's ass and open their mouths as wide as they could for anyone who's gonna throw them funding. Just look at #immadoctor Green, I don't recall having a Hawaii Governor as involved with the National DNC scene as him, I bet he's going to do that campaign fundraiser with Letterman for Kamala now. I'm appalled that he's not speaking out against the anti-semetic/pro-hamas $h!t that's been going on across the country this past year.

McDermott presented the stand your ground bill in 2021. It didn't pass committee.  He stated something like "it shouldn't matter whether you use a potato peeler or a rifle to defend yourself".

I would vote for a Republican in this case even if they can't win.

It shows people are getting out to vote for the principles and encourages others to do so to.

I plan to cast my vote for McDermott.

He also voted against SB3196 sensitive places and the AWB ban this year.
