It's funny cause if ships were allowed to have firearms (international and foreign laws), pirates wouldn't stand a chance.  The ships have an elevated position that would destroy any incoming fast boat.

Seems like laws could be changed for cargo ships, but I'll bet the pirate groups payoff officials to protect them.  Like you're allowed 10 rifles and they must be locked while in port and subject to inspection of that countries port inspectors.

Instead ships need to rely on water cannons and setting up barbed wire or this type of defense.

Countries that ban or restrict ownership of firearms have great difficulty stopping bootlegging and black market activity.

I've heard from a reliable source that planes and ships in the US military have way too many spots that can be used to smuggle contraband into foreign countries.  The risk can be quite lucrative if not caught.

A Glock pistol smuggled into Japan, hypothetically, could bring $1000-2000, which is less than the street price (sellers need room to make a profit).

So, it's no surprise the laws are such that bringing any gun into the country or its waters would create a higher chance that those guns won't be leaving with the owner.
