I was window shopping on impact guns and I came across this outrageous price. I bought an SGL21 for $700 just under a year ago. I realize the recent panic has caused firearm supplies to dwindle, but is this the future of firearms.  With the new announcement of Feinstein's proposed bill being released and talk about "grandfathered" weapons being non-transferable, we may see even higher prices. It seems the gun industry and gun enthusiasts have already submitted to a gun ban as reality.

Here is something to think about. We all acknowledge that there is a abnormally high demand for semiautomatic rifles such as ar's and ak's and a very limited supply to go around. Furtheremore many manufacturers cannot make these rifles fast enough to meet these demands. I've seen on some accounts that many manufacturers have allocated all of their production capacity for the whole year of 2013. In other words whatever they can make for all of next year has been sold to dealers already. So dealers don't have anything to sell until more rifles are made and there is no set timetable for when they will receive a resupply. With all that being said these dealers won't have anything to sell. Without anything to sell, they won't be able to sustain their business and will be forced to close. The offset in prices are to account for that! Now there is no doubt that there is price gouging and profiteering going on but for the most part prices are reflective of the supply available.

So the next time you see $1800 for an ak, you might wanna think to yourself "that might be the last ak they will have for 6 months". Give your lgs the benefit of the doubt cause believe me most of them can't stay open on only selling bolt guns.

I don't know what I put that made you think I don't understand basic supply and demand. The question marks along with the exclamation points were meant to symbolize shock, not confusion. Maybe my post wasn't clear in that. I am not confused on what is happening, nor am I confused on why a local gun store may raise their own prices, especially on an island. Just in case you are confused, impact guns is not a local gun store and was one of the first places to start really raising prices. Now, are their higher prices a result of gouging or just early results of shortages brought on by their large customer base and more traffic than your average LGS? I don't know.

No, not confused.  I do know exactly where impact guns stores are. Their prices are much more inflated than here because of the ease of which a Utah resident can purchase a firearm. If I'm not mistaken Utah is a free state which requires no permit or registration for long guns. I look at it like this. Whenever there is a tsunami or other natural disaster warning everyone rushes to the gas station at the last minute. What we are seeing now is no different. Most people only deal with what they can see in front of them, in this case buying what they can.. I'm with you. I'm sure a large number of these buyers aren't members of the NRA or even voted for that matter in the last election but we are here know and the easiest thing to do is go out buy....
