I used to work up at Tripler and an officer I was talking to one day was talking about video games.  A lot of young soldiers play/played those kind of first-person shooters before enlisting and then when they get into real combat and take a real flesh and blood persons life.  Some of them get all messed up in the head.  So if you ask me those gamers got is all backwards!  Ban those games because they make extreme violence without repercussion to easy.  These guys who do nothing but play video games have no sense of reality.  Look back 10-20 years ago when kids who learn to shoot did it to survive.  They took a living animals life and saw the blood and the pain in the animal if it wasn't a good clean kill shot.  Right away that person knew if it was something they could do or not.

I used to play them when Doom first came out. I wanted to make games when I got my first comp., a Timex Sinclair. I quit playing games before I attended Army basic. Games are realistic - no doubt, but they can't replicate the physical part. The physical exertion that you must train for. It takes work beyond a controller to become a soldier.

Agreed my grandfather was combat infantry in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam and he was one the best men I knew.  Also my last journeyman before I topped out was a door gunner from Vietnam and he would tell us stories of what he went through.  All these guys went on the live solid, productive lives.  Who knows maybe it is these video games and movies a lot of us enjoy.

True that.  When I was in JROTC my senior year getting ready to enlist one our teachers who was an old drill sergeant would train us after school to help us get ready.  I have nothing but the highest regard for all enlisted men and women.
