I feel safer already.  This is a great system as there was no way to report crimes in the past.

State launches gun tip line to gather reports of illegal firearms

As part of an ongoing effort designed to reduce gun violence, the state Department of Law Enforcement set up a Gun Tip Line for people to “make anonymous reports of illegal gun ownership and gun crimes,” according to a news release from the state.

“The Gun Tip Line offers another way the public can assist law enforcement in protecting our neighborhoods,” said DLE Director Jordan Lowe, in a statement. “Guns that have been stolen, guns that haven’t been registered and guns in the wrong hands are often used to commit crimes. The consequences can be tragic. So, if you see something, send something to the Gun Tip Line and help us make Hawai‘i safer.”

A snitching rat ratting on a legal gun owner due to being a snitching rat.  They can't help themselves and now they have a conduit to do so.

I know there are countless rats at that capital bldg. on beretania st. and at honolulu hale but now we are going to see how many rats are out in the public.

Just a red flag law under another name.

Fascism has arrived in this banana republik.

To all you rats out there:  What goes around comes around.  Good luck, karens.

No money to fully reopen the range where people can actually improve their gun safety and proficiency, but we have money to setup and followup on a snitch system for allegedly illegal guns.

Next will be state-funded classes to teach people everything about HRS 134 so everybody knows what constitutes an illegal gun.

This is the next step in gun control evolution after the state declared Bruen is going to be ignored.

Bring as much people into the fold as you can. Stop antagonizing the opposition. Educate them on the purpose of the 2nd amendment and encourage them to exercise their rights. Drag your friends and family members to the range and teach them gun safety. Do it now while we all can before they start putting pressure on suppression. Thats the only real way to oppose gun control.

There are little more than 150k gun owners in the state. If each of us flipped just 3 people, we’d hold the majority of opinion as far as voting age adults go.

I guess there's no money to be made by the corrupt if someone just called 911. Instead, the app had to be updated, a website created, etc...

Shit happens. I saw a custody of a child exchange outside of HPD HQ once. Guess they do it there because they think cops are oustide watching, which they weren't.  The father was handing the kids off to mom and they didn't want to go back to mom. It was such a sad sight not only for the kids, but that a relationship can get so bad that stuff like this needs to be done.

Big government.  Apps can do so much more.........(like tracking, spying, storing data, sorting, organizing). ::)

Leave it to big government to create jobs for those who can't make it in the private sector, waste taxpayer money, give people a false sense of security, and enable the karens, rats, and insecure snitchers in our society to rise and shine.

This was shared to everyone on the RING video "Neighbors" app.  After I posted how this is an abuse of public funds, someone responded with the typical "You have mainland opinions -- Hawaii is special."

Can't have an adult discussion with people who believe they are right regardless of the facts and evidence.  Purely an emotional and subjective argument.

I think when the hawaii supreme court convoluted the translation of "Aloha Spirit" it suddenly made people in leadership positions extremely stupid.

One of my responses was if Hawaii is so special and community so much better than the mainland, why is there any need for this kind of hotline at all?

If the sense of community is enough to keep "mainland gun problems" away,  there is no need to spend more tax funds for a redundant reporting system.  We already have 911 for any crime you wish to report, including illegal guns and violent people.

Mind boggling.

We also have the the already-existing crimestoppers tip line.
This is a quote from the crimestopper site...

"Calls are received at the CrimeStoppers Honolulu tips line phone. This phone is a stand alone instrument which does not provide caller ID, and conversations are not recorded. The CrimeStoppers Honolulu police coordinator or volunteer receiving the information completes the tips information form, makes initial inquiries and then passes the information to the proper law enforcement agency. Calls are accepted regarding..."
