Kapolei archery range trashed
« on: January 01, 2013, 09:11:27 PM »

What is up with this? The KITV news report also mentioned that one of the signs was shot at by a gun.

Unbelievable that someone would vandalize the archery range like this. Hope they catch the culprits.
I think, therefore I am armed.

That is really messed up. The guy is exactly right...they have nothing better to do; they belong in jail. Couldn't agree more. Really hope they catch these punks.

If you freeze the video at the 1:34 mark, it's apparent to anyone even halfway intelligent that there are no "bullet holes" in that little sheet metal sign that the guy is holding.

It looks more like someone shot the sign with those cheap dull point arrows.

Any bullet from any firearm would have gone clear through that little skimpy sign.

While I feel that the vandalizing is wrong, it pisses me off when ignorant people try and make it a firearm offense.

When people do that, it fuels the anti gun sentiment that is already so prevalent in this state.

I was thinking the same thing. Except with a BB gun or airsoft which seems to fit the kid vandals image. I don't think it was an arrow because why would anyone who uses the range trash it? It's like if one of us trashed Kokohead, doesn't make sense. And if the arrow hit something and didn't penetrate, it would've shattered leaving splinters everywhere.

To me, this feels like someone who has a grudge against the range or the people maintaining it.

Maybe there was bows an arrows stored somewhere in the facility.  It looks like pretty much the whole place was ransacked.

It could be a field point, but the ones I used would have gone through the sign.  The size of the indent makes it look like an aluminum (vs carbon fiber) arrow.

I figured any arrow with a point would've punched a hole in the sign unless the perpetrator was using a traditional bow and didn't pull the string back far enough.

That is a good point about a longbow or recurve bow.  I hadn't considered that.

Imagine if that happened at Kokohead. What would we do? The City could take forever to fix. The facilities at Kokohead are falling apart as it is.

Members of the HRA have already met with (at the time) Mayor (Elect) Caldwell.  We shall see what he's going to do.

It's already well established that the area that KKHSC is in has several hundred thousand dollars of budget and at least some of that is solely dedicated to lead cleanup.  I would think if that yearly budget is not used, then it should be able to be used for some serious facility upgrades and maintenance.

Let's see where we are at in 4 to 6 months.

I screen-captured that frame at 1:33, too, because I thought they were BB or pellet-sized holes, but it's kind of hard to "scale" it accurately.

Damned freakin' senseless vandalism, and indeed it looks like multiple shitheads were involved.  Five years in the pokey, eh? Maybe they'll grow up by the time they get out.
