From what i can tell, reports say 3 dead and 5 more at least wounded.  The shooter seems to be counted among the dead.

Yes, and the most blatant and dishonest part of gun control arguments is, if all the things they want to pass into law existed before the tragedy they are piggybacking on happened, none of the laws would have prevented it.

I found on the hot-off-the-presses Wikipedia page that the weapon was a 9mm pistol.  How would "Universal background checks. A national red flag law. A ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines." stop a 17 year old from possessing a 9mm handgun? 

It's not an "assault weapon".  A ban would be meaningless.

She's not legally able to buy a handgun at 17.  Even if there were universal background checks, she would not pass.  Again, meaningless.

Red flag laws?  Need someone to report her before her unregistered, illegally possessed handgun could be confiscated.
