What are you folks grumbling about?

81 million "voters" think this man is great.

The best president to ever grace the white house.

Lol.  Jan. 20th hurry the f*ck up already.

Every second is 10 years of disaster for this country under this mental case.

Newsom passed the buck to "local folks" when asked what he was doing to fix the problem with hydrants running out of water to battle fires in Pacific Palisades.

Yet, somehow the Federal government is going to step in and cover 100% of the state's recovery costs for 180 days?  Where was that pledge for Maui?  Why is Biden allowed to write a blank check for CA but not HI?

Gov. Newsom passes the buck to ‘local folks’ when asked
about hydrants running out of water during Pacific Palisades fire

Quote
California Gov. Gavin Newsom passed the blame onto “local folks” when
grilled over fire hydrants running out of water during the raging Pacific
Palisades fire — and said he couldn’t even respond to President-elect
Donald Trump’s accusations he mismanaged the state’s water supply.

Oh, another reason Biden is using our treasury to help CA is this:

Thousands of Los Angeles homeowners were
dropped by their insurers before the Palisades Fire

Quote
About 1,600 policies in Pacific Palisades were dropped by State Farm in
July, California Department of Insurance spokesman Michael Soller said
in a Thursday email to CBS MoneyWatch. An analysis of insurance data
by CBS San Francisco last year found that State Farm also dropped more
than 2,000 policies in two other Los Angeles ZIP codes, which include the
Brentwood, Calabasas, Hidden Hills and Monte Nido neighborhoods.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/fires-california-palisades-fire-homeowners-insurance-state-farm-fair-losses/

If State Farm recognized the massive risk the mismanagement of CA forrests represented, why didn't the state & governor?

If the homes in Maui were uninsured, maybe Biden would have taken better care of them?

After briefing the public on the federal government’s plan to help local officials during the disaster, Biden gave the floor to Vice President Kamala Harris, who hails from California, and made a quick joke.

"Madam Vice President, I know you're directly affected. So you fire away, no pun intended," Biden said.

Insurance companies are in the business to make money. They did a risk assessment and since this happens often in CA, they acted. Those affected should be mad at CA for not mitigating the risk before the carriers decided to leave or non-renew.

Imagine being State Farm and say of the 10,00 homes, they had 1,000 policies.  The average cost of a home there is $3 million.  So that's $300,000,000 they would have to pay. Either they go bankrupt or their reinsurance does. IDK if SF has reinsurance or not since they're a huge company.  Now everyone else in the state gets cancelled or even nationwide due to them going under. So 1,000 homes vs much more nationwide.

So they did an evaluation and made a decision. No different from carriers not wanting to insure a fireworks factory that has poor safety standards when they their underwriting procedure.

This comes down to CA"s politicians. They care more about non-profits grumbling about the environment and not clearing the dead trees.  Which Trump warned them about in 2018 or so.  Also, DEI fire chief who stated that DEI was a priority. Actions/voting has consequences.

At the same time, the recent home buyers will be fine. As they can afford to rebuild or rebuild elsewhere. It's the ones who bought 60 years ago at a much lower price that are screwed.

What I don't want happenign is that they sell the land and relocate to a red state and mess it up by voting the same. But I was wrong about Vegas as for POTUS, only 1K more voted for Harris, but 50K more voted for Trump. I haven't looked too much into their local election though, but in general they're closer to 50/50 DNC and GOP. The DNC in Vegas aren't as crazy as teh DNC in CA or HI.

What I am wondering is if the insurance companies all stuck provisions in the contracts that allow them to drop a specific type coverage at any time they see fit or if they are trying to wiggle out of it hoping its cheaper to fight the suits than pay out. Or did they just drop the fire coverage for customers whose policies were about to renew? Makes me want to call my insurance to see if they can do this to me when the next hurricane comes our way.

there is a state fire insurance that you can get if you get dropped, but it is very $$$

Originally, SF was going to leave CA totally. But got some bad PR about it, so they stayed, but excluded fire as a cause of loss.  They cannot do this mid term to anyone. But upon renewal, the clause would be added  in. I wanna say they began this like 6+ months ago.

Same here, changes to policy language cannot be made midterm, but upon renewal.  And if SF left CA, then they would just non-renew policies as they came up and not cancel all of a sudden. Like "tomorrow your cancelled for cause".  But what they could also do is issue a 30 day notice of cancellation (IDK if CA law allows this).

Companies in general can issue moratoriums and not write new policies or make any changes for X event, like a hurricane is approaching HI.  The carriers aren't dump and know people will buy coverage cause a known risk of loss increases. Make the 1st installment, then cancel.

And may have limited coverage if it's like HI's one.  Hawaii has a max of dwelling coverage of like $350,000 and most homes in HI would cost much more than that to rebuild in a total loss.  Also, the fine print like animal exclusions.

I know this has been an issue with flood insurance for quite some time due to the high risk and cost of houses along the ocean. I guess it is coming up for fires as well now.

If insurance companies decide not to cover a specific area due to very high risks then that is their right I suppose, I just hope they aren't screwing their customers.

More like a "don't call us when there's a hurricane coming cause we're not dumb to take your money and have to pay six figures".  You will be amazed at how many people try to buy hurricane insurance when there's one coming.

Flood is typically a national program (fed).  But there are some who operate outside of this program.  But they too have a 30 day clause. So you can buy flood insruance if a flood is coming, but you gotta wait 30 days for it to take effect. But there is an exclusion to this, if a mortgagee is requiring it. As in you're buying a home and need to close on it, but have to get the proof of coverage 1st.  Also, the national one, there is no refunds. So even if you foresee a flood event happening say on 31 days later and it doesn't happen, you cannot cancel and get a refund.

There are still people in NC, SC and other states without housing after the hurricanes last September.  Those who tried to help by setting up temporary shelters for people to use while their homes are repaired had to have them removed because the state government said they don't meet "building code."   :wtf:

People are still trying to get hotel vouchers and the promised $750 from the feds, but many are being summarily denied for no obvious reason.

I wonder if the CA fire victims are all getting assistance because the fires destroyed their Trump signs?

I remember reading that the reason the flood protection is often a national program is because the private insurance companies were refusing to sell it to customers in high risk areas so the feds took over. Problem is now all the houses that get flooded in the high risk areas end up costing the government (aka taxpayers) a lot of money because the government doesn't set the premiums high enough to cover the actual cost when a disaster strikes.

That and they weren't able to increase the premiums to keep the carriers in business. So same like State Farm in CA, but different cause of loss.

The national flood program also has a cap. Which might work in cheaper cost of living states, but not in Hawaii if there's a total loss.  Another thing the government can mess up.
