President Trump's 2nd inauguration: Monday, Jan 20, 2025
« on: January 17, 2025, 06:20:46 PM »
Saw where he announced the ceremony will be held indoors due to "dangerously cold temperatures" expected Monday.

I'm wondering if the weather is the result of Democrats predicting "it'll be a cold day in Hell before Trump gets reelected!"

Protect the President.
That was my first suspicion until I saw the National Weather Service forecast for Baltimore/Washington DC on Monday:

High 23°

Also drone attacks are a thing now and DJI just disabled the feature that forces them to land in controlled airspace, so it would be easy for someone to launch a civilian swarm as a distraction and send one or two with a payload through the middle.
Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

With all the current and former top officials attending, the Secret Service would have a big task protecting them all.

Then there's the constant threat of a mass shooter -- not really trying to go after Trump as much as taking out Trump supporters they blame for Kamala losing.

i don't see drones as an issue since the entire DC area is restricted air space due to Marine One and the open areas every elected official can be caught out in.

Quote
The National Capital Region is governed by a Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA)
within a 30-mile radius of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, which
restricts all flights in the greater DC area.

The SFRA is divided into a 15-mile radius inner ring and a 30-mile radius outer ring.

Flying an unmanned aircraft within the 15-mile radius inner ring is prohibited without
specific FAA authorization.

Experienced Part 107 and public aircraft operators with justification can file your
request through the on-line Access Program (AAP).

A TSA/FAA waiver and an SGI/COA is required.

Flying a drone for recreational or non-recreational use between 15 and 30 miles
from Washington, D.C. is allowed under these operating conditions:

- Aircraft must weigh less than 55 lbs. (including any attachments such as a camera)
- Aircraft must be registered and marked
- Fly below 400 ft.
- Fly within visual line-of-sight
- Fly in clear weather conditions
- Never fly near other aircraft

The airspace around Washington, D.C. is more restricted than in any other part of the country.
Rules put in place after the 9/11 attacks establish "national defense airspace" over the area
and limit aircraft operations to those with an FAA and Transportation Security Administration
authorization. Violators face stiff fines and criminal penalties.

AI-powered monitors to defend
Washington DC against aerial threats

Quote
The Pentagon will upgrade the air surveillance technology it uses around
Washington DC with a computer vision system that can identify and warn
officials of suspicious objects flying around or near the capital.

The system, built by computer vision vendor and first-time defense contractor
Teleidoscope, uses sensors and machine learning algorithms to identify and
track objects. The Pentagon will use the tech in the protected airspace around
DC, which is covered by special flight rules that require air defense operators
to identify, locate, and control aircraft flying within the Baltimore-Washington
Metropolitan Area to protect national security.

Lieutenant colonel Kurtis Engelson, materiel leader for Battle Control Systems,
which oversees the National Capital Region [NCR]- Integrated Air Defense
System, said the upgrade will improve air defense operators' ability to spot
aerial intruders.

I don’t think terrorists care about the FAA regulations much, and I doubt the technology is available to take down an entire swarm without wiping out all the nearby friendly equipment as well.

There's an entire segment of tech that tries to improve and counter drones.

Much more involved than this topic should explore, I think.

Or the Lahaina space lasers, which is just a "conspiracy theory" even though they actually exist.

Not a great time to be a public figure. Remember the good old days in the Roman empire when they would just poison your figs or stab you in the back?

Hope Trump does an executive order for carry in Federal buildings and military bases, or at least requiring the easy storage of CCW firearms at them.

When i saw Vance being sworn in before Trump, i took a few minutes to wonder why.  i figured there was a logical reason.

I figured it out, then verified it on the Interweb.

Quote
The vice president is sworn in first to ensure that there is a successor ready
to assume the presidency in case the president-elect is unable to take the
oath due to unforeseen circumstances. This practice emphasizes the
importance of a smooth transition of power and continuity in government.

Basically, if Biden croaks before Trump is sworn in, Kamala would be President.  Likewise, if Trump croaks after taking the oath, Kamala would be President.

Until they swap out the VP, the outgoing VP is still on deck if the President, whoever that is, can't remain president.

Thought it was an interesting dynamic at a crucial moment in the process.

I watched the inauguration and his speech.  Trump really ripped Biden and Harris.  Saw both of them sitting there with a big nuha face.

It was so funny and enjoyable to watch.

Woke "Bishop" gives activist speech at inauguration....

Dem DC bishop lectures Trump on migrants
during prayer service, irking The Don

Quote
A Democratic bishop asked President Trump to have “mercy” on migrants
as he sat in the audience during a National Prayer Service on Tuesday —
and the commander in chief was not amused.

Asked by reporters about the service afterward, Trump responded, “They
could do better.

“Not too exciting, was it?” he added.

The Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde — the Episcopal bishop of DC who has a
long history of publicly criticizing the president — called out Trump directly
in her sermon as he sat in the front row of the Washington National Cathedral,
asking him to go easy on illegal migrants, refugees and members of the
LBGT community.

If I were in charge of Trump's protection I would absolutely want the event moved inside. Two attempts on his life already and a good reason to expect future ones. There is a decent change he doesn't make it to the end of his presidency.

The theory I am hearing from some on the left is that it was moved inside so his ego isn't damaged if the crowd isn't big enough.

If fear causes you to alter the way you live your life and celebrate your accomplishments, the terrorists have won.

After 9/11, the messaging was, "Go out, live your life.  Go to work, take your kids to the park, take a walk or jog, and don't be afraid."

Sure, exercise a bit more safety and alertness, but don't be afraid to do the things you want.

Trump didn't cower under the podium until the threat was over.  He jumped up and yelled, "Fight!"  That's how you defeat them.

I was trying to imagine how quickly Democrats would have been screaming about the separation of church and state had a pro-life bishop blasted Biden at his inauguration for ignoring his Catholic teachings or calling out Obama for his endless wars and droning innocents overseas and even killing an American citizen on foreign soil using a drone.

Why has no one called out the woke activist bishop on church and state separation?  If the government can't force a religion on us, why can a religion force a political ideology on us?  How many debates on here have brought up the need to not use religious morality as a basis for government policies and laws?

Seems like the Dems' positions only apply when they disagree with the message.

This was a poor pastor.  There is a time and place for this discussion and this wasn't it.  Furthermore, SCOTUS has ruled on abortion and gay marriage if that's what she's referring to as LGBTABATMAN rights.  So she's barking up the wrong tree.
