there must be at least ten-thousands of 30-round PMAGS already in Hawaii, if not a whole lot more, given the wide-spread popularity of the Modern Sporting Rifle (MSR), a.k.a. AR-15.  Or as Biden referred to it as the AR-14.  I mean, what MSR owner has only one PMAG?

not sure how many rifle owners there are in the state, but I'd think that "most" of them have at least one MSR.  It should be a civic duty that every citizen should own one, just my opinion.

anyways, this bill instantly criminalizes a large swath of Law-Abiding, and Voting Citizens with the stroke of the pen.

Karl Rhoads fits the description better as one of King George III's representatives, the Red Coats, than of US citizens, whose "forefathers fought a war to throw off the yoke of tyranny", now being reinstated by The Kings Men.  Again, just my opinion.

once again, I am waxing rhapsodic.

AFAIK, no mass-casualty event shooter has ever used a Fifty either, so for them to push this ban on 50 cal firearms infers that the Fifty is the favorite weapon of mass-casualty event shooters, and that is a flat-out lie.  but of course, that doesn't matter much to our esteemed elected officials.

Any new last-minute talking points on this bill that could sway senators?

1) Is it true that this bill provides no exemption for film productions?
2) Hinders eradication hunting on public land.
3) I think some hay could be made that the law would create a feeding frenzy of firearm purchases for the remainder of the year.

4) All the existing practical points. (Ridiculous ban on adjustable stocks; ambiguous definitions of "shroud", "flash suppressor", etc; magazine limits that don't take into account cartridge sizes; yadda yaddal)

5) All the well-trod philosophical points.

Are there any senators that are actually on the fence for the issue?

Add in no where to legally shoot the rifle, even at KHSC.

HIs sustification is because someone can shoot at someone else from a mile away.  Like that's an easy task to do.

The ultimate power lies in controlling the masses (people).

And you can't do that when we have the means to fight back.

Hello All:  Senator Mike Gabbard responded to an email I sent, and indicated that he has been, and remains a strong NO vote on SB401.

So we for sure have at least one patriot to stand with us in the Senate.

He’s the only one to respond to me.  I pass this on so you know where he stands and can consider it in your communications.

More importantly though, this shows that the “all Senators” email address works!  This address, on the Senate webpage, is:

sens@capitol.hawaii.gov

This is awesome, as the Senate is our best chance to stop this, so please take advantage of this up to the wire.

Is that when this would go in to effect? 2026?  I kept thinking it was July for some reason.  2026 would obviously give me more time to acquire my wishlist.

This is all fucked.

Called my representatives and the Senate President, Kouchi. The call takers were all friendly and said they register the opposition calls they get. The two representatives said they have been getting a lot of call and emails of opposition about this bill, one said over 100.

I asked if emails are any good or if they get lost in mountains of emails but they said they do record opposition/support from the emails but they don't usually reply unless someone asks a specific questions seeking a response.

The process can seem a little daunting at first but having called a few over the years my interactions with the staff of legislators has found them to be friendly and helpful.

Does it seem like any congresspeople actually record names and residence locations? I know some of them ask but most don't... I seriously doubt any have any way of confirming whether the callers are actually in their districts or not.

Are there any "swing vote" Senators that we should be focusing attention on?

According to his staffer, Angus McKelvey (my rep) will be voting no.

Gabbard and Buenaventura are reliable no votes as well, right?

I imagine the Republicans will all vote no:
Kurt Favella
Samantha DeCorte
Awa Brenton (He better be twisting arms SO hard behind the scenes right now)

We know that Rhoads, Wakai and Elefante will vote yes.

I don't know enough about the remainder of the Democratic senators but there sure are a bunch of them.

When are the votes?
....
HIFICO posted a message that the politicians are stalling the vote. It's a typical dirty political tactic to wear the protesters out. Protesters go home, then they do the vote.

from HIFICO's FB page:

An amendment was submitted in the Senate that made changes to the bill.
It includes a grandfather clause for magazines, allowances for hunting, and other smaller revisions.
The bill now returns to the House and will be heard on Friday.
Friday is the final day for bills to be passed. I will provide an update as soon as I have the hearing time.
Thank you to everyone who showed up in support of protecting Second Amendment rights.
