« on: February 08, 2025, 11:54:59 AM »
I heard at the range that you can get a permit to aquire now without actually purchasing a pistol and its good for 1 month?  How does this work now?  Thinking about picking up a pistola and want to know the process..

Thanks in advance!! :shaka:

Apply for a pistol permit with all your credentials (did mine when I renewed my long gun) and tell them no serial number. Wait the two weeks. When you go to pick it up, you have 30 days to acquire your firearm. Same process once you acquire, if you don’t acquire within 30 days, you have to turn in the permit back in to the firearms section. Permit is a one for one when you go to purchase.

*edit: I know it’s one permit per firearm but I am not sure about multiple permits/purchases as I just did a single permit.

You can apply for multiple permits with a single visit. No online options. You have to pick up the approved permit(s) at HPD and register the handgun(s) in person at HPD.

Is the permit good for one month from the pick up date? I noticed the permit pick up dates also have a one month window now so I’m a bit confused on the process I.e. can I pick up my permit on the absolute last day of the pick up window and it will be good for another 30mdays?

If purchasing a handgun from a dealer using a blank permit, the registration can still be done online.  When picking up my last batch of blank permits I was told that it had to be brought in to register but HPD documentation online made no mention of that, so I asked the dealer to verify with HPD.
