Named for phishing attempts via SMS Texting to your cell -- as opposed to regular phishing emails.
States that use the EZ Pass toll road payment system report customers are receiving scam texts saying they owe for tolls not paid through their normal online account.
Even though HI has no toll roads, SMISHING could use this method for any government or utility payments you can submit online. I can see HECO electric bills, water bills, cable TV and Internet bills, or USPS recipients being targeted here. in fact, i've received messages claiming i have an undelivered package that will be returned to sender if I don't update my delivery information.
Remember, if you get something you suspect is not for real, don't click on anything in the message. Go to the source's website or call them to verify they actually sent you that message.
