CCW people turn them in!

that's the scene setter for this article  :grrr: people that own and carry firearms are the problem!
https://www.kitv.com/news/department-of-law-enforcement-hopes-to-get-hundreds-of-guns-off-the-streets-through-buyback/article_e2babc92-96d9-48e8-91bc-c6315af4bec5.html

More than 2,000 people filed for a license to carry a concealed firearm in 2024.

That's according to a first-ever statewide report from the Hawaii Attorney General.

With a notable rise in gun violence in the islands, efforts are intensifying to reclaim firearms through a buyback program.

But an increase in gun violence is prompting the state Department of Law Enforcement to double down on programs to take back firearms.

The Supreme Court has already said states cannot use a balancing analysis to justify stricter gun laws -- i.e. public safety weighed against Constitutional 2A protections.

Therefore, any statistics that lean toward more (or less) violent crime, gun-related homicides, etc. are not relevant to the issue of legal concealed carry or voluntary disarmament events (i.e. buy-backs).

Some habits die hard.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Wonder if they will pay for slam fire shotguns.  Might be worth the time to make a few, especially if you can find some free pipes.

No need even test fire to make sure it works.

Since buy back program began, more under 21 are using guns illegally.  Just saying...

Thought I previously saw 10,000 licenses, guess that was too good to be true.

I estimated Hawaii's demand would be about 25,000 licenses which would've been half of the national average of 5% (5% is an old figure, likely higher now).  The things limiting it is lack of classes due to ranges, and people don't know the injunction is still in place for the sensitive places, and people don't know the license is good for 4 years now.

BTW the Wolford preliminary injunction stopping the sensitive places law is pending at SCOTUS.  So the injunction will likely be in place at least through June, but more likely October if SCOTUS denies the appeal.
