Who wants to come to this ugly place anyway.  Just look at the news lately.  Waikiki looks like shiite.  Everything is so expensive.  There is no Aloha Spirit.  Unless we talking about gun control and 2a rights violations.  Then Aloha Spirit reigns supreme.

Anyway, yeah.  I dunno why the state gotta get involved with the HTA, which I have no idea why it even exists.

My guess is the state just wants to make sure it gets it's proper cut.  Or maybe more.

Maybe the best way to look at it was an experiment, an attempt to form an agency to manage/help the tourism industry, but that ended up not justifying its cost? Or maybe Green wants more control?

Speaking of tourism, it's wonderful to see Green tying his name to this horrible new tax.

They're saying that it's only 0.75% so like $3 per day.  But add it all up and it's $100 million estimated annual taxation.  I mean, if they would spend the money on something besides the false climate change, then I think more people would be OK with it.

The reason why they cannot just charge tourist and exclude locals, cause then it would def be unconstitutional to do so per the AG.

i always wondered why the ride from the airport to Waikiki is arguably the most unattractive route on Oahu.

For the amount of tax dollars the state spent on DBEDT and HTA over the years, that bit of Nimitz-to-Ala Moana could be at least as nice as the roads in Waikiki.

i guess if the money spent marketing Hawaii works, then no need to make reality match the hype?

We are just like LA.  Don't bother to deal with the real problems of homeless living on the sidewalks and in parks, used needles and condoms wherever you go, and so on.  Sell the fantasy, and people will buy it -- literally.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
