Minnesota Gun Laws- Do Gun Law's Really work?
« on: August 28, 2025, 02:08:58 PM »
I feel very sorry for the shooting that occurred in the recent incident on Maui - A prohibited person that was able to obtain a "ghost gun" and EXTENDED (aka illegal") Magazine.

Now Yesterday, there was a shooting at a school in Minnesota.  I felt "compelled" to look up what the Gun laws in Minnesota is:

Minnesota's 2025 gun laws feature expanded background checks for all firearm sales, including private transfers, an Extreme Risk Protection Order law, and restrictions on firearm access for domestic abusers. While a permit is not required to purchase rifles and shotguns, a permit is needed for handguns, which includes a background check. Additionally, new legislation requires all law enforcement agencies to log firearms used in crimes into the national eTrace database

So what i'm asking, Do Gun laws actually work?  Remember now, the gun doesn't kill people.  People kill people....  People have died from Stabbings, muggings, car accidents etc.

What will happen going forward is the LEGAL GUN OWNERS will again have more of their rights "restricted", to create what i believe to be a "false" sense of "security".  The bottom line is the real issue(s) never is addressed:  Mental Health?

Just my 2 cents...

You are correct. It's very difficult to stop a motivated individual who wants to cause harm.  The left just looks for any excuse/reason to ban guns.  And they are winning.

The problem with the antigun crowd is they want to play Monday morning quarterback and ask questions like, "How did this person we now know is a mentally disturbed transgender get past the current laws and background checks?  This must mean we need stricter laws and background checks."

What they ignore is that MN has passed most gun laws the anti's wanted, and it still failed to stop the killing.  The issues Everytown downgraded MN on would have had no impact at all on this specific case.

I put CA in the comparison, since they ranked #1 in Everytown's grading system.  MN ranks #14.

https://everytownresearch.org/rankings/compare/?states=CA%2CMN

i recommend sending this link to anyone saying MN should have more laws and ask which of the ones they don't have in the list would have changed the outcome?

The gun laws worked as intended by our politicians: allow a crazy person to commit a heinous act without an armed citizen to interfere, and capitalize on the fear to push more ineffective laws through. Soon we'll beike the UK, where a girl pulling a hatchet on a criminal to protect herself will be the one jailed.

Yes!  That’s exactly the state of play my friend - well said!

WE, as in everyone who understands what you just said, are the last line standing between human liberty and civilization, and Animal Farm …

We're just fodder for tax revenue.

They're happy while we live and don't give a shit when we die, whether naturally or by nefarious means.

They may be categorized as "public servants", but we all know who the servants are.

I like that comment about how gun laws allow a crazy person to do bad things without armed citizens to interfere.
Gotta remember that one.👍😁
