RIP Glock 22, my first love
« on: September 27, 2025, 02:24:19 PM »
It finally happened, my Glock 22 gen2, my first gun, broke.  It started shooting to the left, about 4 inches at 8 yards, and I couldn't figure it out.  Replaced a locking block pin, adjusted the sights, checked the parts, but everything seemed ok.  Got weird looks from people when I said it shot to the left, like I sucked at shooting.  Then today I noticed the slide was cracked.  28 years old and 30,000+ rounds of 40SW through.

The sorrow.  The pain

Don't be sad.   It's just the universe telling you it's time for an upgrade!   :geekdanc:

Is that an MOS slide for reflex sight mounting?  If not, this might also be the time to consider one as a replacement.

Glad you figured the problem out before something worse happened.  Range time is not just for practice.

Wow.

You actually wore out a Glock.

Shouldn’t there be some kind of award or recognition of some kind?

To put things into perspective, 30,000+ rounds = $12,000+ in ammo through a $600 gun.

If he used reloaded, remanufactured, or hand-loaded ammunition, he might not be interested in receiving recognition.   :geekdanc:

Those kinds of ammo will void the 1 year Glock warranty.

Just saying.   :shaka:

30,000+ rounds isn't much in a Glock, it's premature.  40sw is a punishing round and I got lax on replacing recoil springs at times which led to premature breakage.

There's reports of Glock 17s hitting 100k to 200k.

Don’t be so self deprecating.

I have a Glock 20 - maybe I should be replacing that plasticy recoil spring too ….

Anyway, you live in Hawaii, so you spent as much on ammunition as those guys who ran 100k rounds through their gun - that’s gotta count in my twisted book.

1997, way before MOS was a thing.
I would have guessed that, but I had to also allow for the original slide being milled.

google master has broken google-fu?
https://www.google.com/search?q=mos+slide
Actually, I use DuckDuckGo, not Google.

Google is a specific proprietary designation. Google-fu sounds better than DuckDuckGo-Fu.

I know what MOS is.  It's more than a "factory designation," but to say it is that isn't wrong.

I was just wondering why you thought that factoid was relevant to my comment since i didn't see how it could be.  Your answer would depend on whether or not you knew what, exactly, MOS designates.

Or maybe it was just a random bit of trivia that had no relevance?  I can never tell with you.

it's relevant because you asked if it was an MOS slide

and then tried to move goalpost to "original slide being milled"

Okay, that tells me you have a narrow definition of MOS.

But you still haven't answered what MOS "designates."  Why not?

I never moved any goal posts.  You, on the other hand, refuse to answer a simple question.  is that basic avoidance, deflection, or just your passive-aggressive brain refusing to have an honest exchange?

Alright, I'm not going to drag this out and have it become another pissing contest.

If the implication is that only Glock factory MOS slides exist, then that's false.  No goal posts need moving.  You can have a non-MOS slide -- Glock or non-Glock branded slide -- milled with the Glock MOS footprint.  If your only point was that I used the words "MOS slide", you're off base.  The term MOS was popularized by Glock and is now used for any slide that has a Glock MOS footprint.

Glock introduced the Modular Optic System (MOS) option to the public in January 2015 during the SHOT Show.  So, it's rather obvious Zippz's g22 Gen2 could not have been a Glock MOS slide at time of purchase.

i've seen milled or after-market slides with the MOS footprint called OEM MOS slides.  That may help differentiate between milled/non-Glock slides and Glock factory produced MOS slides.

His original slide could definitely have been milled into an MOS slide.

MOS "designation" is not tied to only Glock MOS slides.  it's tied to any slide with the MOS footprint.
