Anyone else worried about all this mental illness talk?  I mean,  you're already prohibited if you've been deemed to have a mental illness, amirite?   I see them prohibiting say the son who lost his mother, was depressed for a bit,  was prescribed Valium or whatever, maybe some ambien to help get some sleep.  That guys going to be fucked at some point in the future if we start on down this mental illness slope.  I feel like a prohibited prescription drug list and even short bouts of depression will be written in at some point down the line. If you've been prescribed ever you're prohibited.

I don't think your over thinking it at all. What about the Soldier coming home with PTSD or like you said anyone who has ever had go to counseling. Maybe married couples going through a rough patch....all not able to purchase just because of  talking to a shrink. This may be the best deterant to keep someone from getting much needed help for a temperary problem that maybe otherwise keep them from going off the deep end.

The teacher should be fired and the parents should sue her as well as the school for this travesty.

There's a way around this problem. At least today, before laws are changed, there's a way around this.

1. Get rid of your insurance/doctor.
2. Check the "I don't have insurance/a doctor" box on the gun application.
3. Get your permit and buy your gun.
4. Get insurance/doctor.

Stripping someone's rights for life because they felt suicidal once isn't common sense, it's Obama-esque stupidity. 

Instead of coming up with ever-expanding lists of people who can't own guns, we should be loosening the requirements for civil commitment.  If someone is too dangerous to own a gun, they should be locked up.  If they're not dangerous enough to lock up, then they shouldn't have their rights infringed.  It's a damn slippery slope when we start thinking that 2a rights are less important than other rights, especially if all it takes to have them stripped for life is a slip of the tongue at the wrong time.  Either ALL your rights are inviolable, or none of them are.
