I originally founded it as a 501C4 not for profit.  After I left it was reconstituted.  The HIFICO website still says 501C4, you'd have to check with them to verify it currently is or another type.

501c4 seems more appropriate.
ie. not charitable, not tax exempt and more political

According to the IRS, HIFICO's federal tax exempt status was automatically revoked
for not filing a Form 990-series return or notice for three consecutive years.
