So why does everyone bash glocks? Is it a particular model, is it because its polymer, or just glocks in general?

They're reliable, and fairly cheap. Just like Hondas. Why do people hate Hondas?

Because they have all the ergonomic qualities of a brick.  Because a bad trigger doesn't make a good safety.  All this "loooooook the gun back into the holster", "reholster sloooooooowly", stuff started because Glock decided that it was a good idea to put a double-action trigger pull on a pistol with no safety.  Oh, GLOCK's got a safe action trigger?  It won't fire unless the trigger is pulled completely to the rear?  Congratulations, you've developed a trigger that does precisely the same thing as virtually every modern handgun sold.

If you wouldn't carry a revolver cocked and locked, why would you carry a GLOCK?

good points. I didn't like the stock trigger on my glock so I replaced it with a ghost ultimate trigger. I also don't leave it cocked. At least with my sig I can leave it chambered and uncocked

I saw a Glock 23 fire out of battery (it slam fired before the slide was fully closed), twice.   The second time was after it had been back to Glock to be "fixed"  (the chamber was bulged enough after the first time that it wouldn't close; all Glock did was to grind off the high spot, leaving the chamber oversize).

I has a 21 for a while, but the safety (such as it is, and what there is of it) always spooked me.

I love my glock 23. One of my top favorites in my safe. I'm not worried about the safety because I learned a long time ago that its not the safety that makes the firearm safe. It's  keeping your finger off the trigger till you decide to shoot that makes the gun safe.

Slam fires are almost always caused by a firing pin issue. Clean your gun, inspect, lube and you won't have to worry about it.

We're they 22 or 23?

There have been some reports of kabooms with mainly the 40 cal Glocks. They are still pretty rare given the quantity of them out in use.

If this is a true story, just about the only way that this could be possible statistically is if the ammo was the problem, or the 2 pistols were made on the same day, on the same production line, with the same miss in quality control.

However, I will again say that if it is true, I would bet that your friend used hand loads that were not correct, or had a really bad batch of factory loads.  The majority of failures are pretty easy to surmise if it was an issue with the ammo.  On the plus side, I have known Glock to take care of these issues even when it is obviously an ammo issue.

well, he probably wasnt using hand loads, it was a duty weapon.  both were .40's if it matters.

ammo seems like the likely culprit.  this happened a couple years ago.

but it is true.  he had some nasty looking shrapnel wounds in his hand and wrist from the first one.
