Does anyone have a response template all nicely worded with legal jargon and all that fun stuff? I know I can write my own but I was thinking it would be more effective if someone with a legal background drafted up a response and we all put our name on it.

We should look at the bright side of this.  Just like on the mainland buyback days, we could all wait with money in hand at the buyback sight and outbid the police and still get stuff for super cheap. :thumbsup:

Took me a while to actually disagree with this bill.

The fact that it provided no protections for those turning in illegal firearms is what spelled "unreasonable" to me. What is the point if those most likely to use a firearm to commit a crime have no incentive other than a tiny amount of cash to turn in the firearm?

The points I wrote in my testimony were

- unnecessary and a waste of taxpayer money. Gun owners can always sell or consign with a LGS if they have something they no longer want to keep.

- rife for abuse. Collector or historical items being sold at a pittance. Junk items being overpaid with taxpayer money.

- selling via gun shops support local businesses and generate positive tax revenues. Market forces are a better determinant of the worth of the items.

There is better way to spend tax payers dollars.   For example me and my son just got to dmv to get in line for his road test.  We came yesterday at 445 and we were to late. He couldn't take his test.  It would be nice not to have to sleep in a chair on a side walk to get something required by law.  A driver's license or to register a firearm.

submitted online.  I told them might as well just make an amnesty bin like at the airport - will accomplish the same thing and cost taxpayers virtually nothing.  $100k is nothing to sneeze at and certainly can be better spent elsewhere!

The more I think about this no questions asked gun buy back crap, the more it pisses me off.  This is just one other way these screwed up politicians encourage and coddle criminals. 

So a person uses a weapon to commit a crime, homicide even?, he doesn't have a way to get rid of the evidence,  he obviously doesn't want to use it, or be caught with the damning piece.   Hey lets turn it in, not only will they PAY ME, they cut it up and destroy the route to conviction.

This is what I wrote, A gun buyback really is pretty silly. It may very well get guns off the streets but if someone does not want to own a firearm, there are plenty of people who do.


Aloha, I am writing in opposition to the proposed gun buyback program. The money that would be allotted for this program would be better used to improve gun safety education, or put towards building public ranges so that people can practice and become proficient in the operation of firearms. The big island currently has not one public range, yet thousands of gun owners and a huge abundance of suitable lands for such use. Hawaii state has very low gun related violence due to its increasingly strict gun laws. We do not need a gun buyback. If people want to relinquish their firearms they can already take them to the police station to be destroyed with minimal hassle. I am a citizen, and I vote. We do not want or need a gun buyback.
