I have a C&R FFL, so I like the old stuff - especially the Mauser 98, whether they be Argentine, Brazilian, Turkish, Israeli, or German. I love the smell of cosmoline in the morning
Oh, the M96 Swede is a close second.

If I could legally own them, it would be MP5s.  I always had a thing for them during my airsoft days.  :shaka:

I have a thing for three things:

1) Long floating hand guards on my AR's with muzzle brakes
2) MP5SD's
3) How brand new ammo looks when you take them out of the box. Brass all shiny and shit.

See a lot of people collect or want to collect M1 carbines and AKs but I haven't seen too many people post M1 pics or ask M1 questions (endless for AKs). To me collecting an M1 means original WWII M1 carbines, unless I'm misreading this. I posted a pic of one of my Inland M1A1s and I think I may have seen one or two others but that is it. Would be interesting to roughly know about how many in this forum have M1s from the WWII era (manufactures listed below). Speaking for myself, I have five with all the trimmings and sold several that I regret. I have three Inland (M1, M1A1 [2]) , one I.B.M. and one Irwin-Pedersen, and always have an eye out for others available in mint condition. I really like this weapon and the history behind it.

Winchester
Inland
Underwood
Quality Hardware
Irwin-Pedersen
Rock-Ola
Saginaw S'G'
Saginaw Gear
National Postal Meter
Standard Products
I.B.M.

I have a "thing" for AK type rifles. I'm trying to collect at least one from every country that ever built them.

On AKs, I just want to see Keoni's collection when he reaches his goal. I too collect AKs but only pre-ban stuff. The problem I had/have is when I got one, say a Chinese Norinco Type 56S and I was happy for the moment, but then I had to have all the Norinco models (56S-1, 56S-2, 56S-3, 56-5, 88, AK74, 81) and Poly Tech was the same story, and on and on, and that gets expensive real quick. But Keoni has a great goal...one from each country but even he, will not let that be the end of it (I would bet). Once a goal is achieved, a new goal is formulating, and he will inevitably not stop at one from each country, since he will find too many favorites along the way. I think he already crossed that line a long time ago in his journey.

I have one (or more) from Bulgaria, China, Russia, Romania, Hungary, Poland, & Yugoslavia.

The problem as you stated is that there are so many variants and when I like one, I get more than one of a certain model.

I also have an impressive AK magazine collection.

I've yet to acquire the Bosnian "Fleur de Lis" that I desperately want.

KK, you should invite Kalashnikov over and have him sign your collection.

Wait, is he still alive?
I think, therefore I am armed.

I had a few of those mags with the religious emblem (believe it was religious?)...wish I kept them. Kinda odd depending how you view the civil war and the use of the mags since I believe before the civil war they got their AKs from other countries, primarilyYugoslavia before the country was broken up into Serbia, Bosnia and other sub-divisions. Not an expert in this area. Either way, I believe it's a very rare mag and I do see them on GB if you want to pay the price. Oh check out this link (scroll the whole page) with this guys AK mag collection...one hell of a collection and good for reference:
