I take it from your question that you are not an NRA member.
I point out that for many many decades, the official journal of the NRA, the
American Rifleman, has had a column each and every month called "The Armed Citizen," which cites at least a half dozen instances such as you are looking for.
The majority of these incidents are reported in smallish localish papers, as opposed to the mainstream media (MSM), which is loaded with brainwashed Journalism majors from educational institutions where they are taught to parrot strongly leftist viewpoints and are disinclined to report any instances which are contrary to their lockbrained viewpoints.
And for these many decades, "The Armed Citizen" has been pointing out that
the mere presence of a firearm without a shot being fired, has been sufficient to prevent crimes.
In addition, such reports as they appear in the mainstream media only report the fact that a shooting took place, without qualifying it as possibly a justifiable, or "righteous" shooting by a legally qualified and licensed concealed firearm carrier.
(Which you do not have in Hawaii!) Thus, as reported, it becomes "another shooting OMGOMGletsgetridofguns."
That's my fair and balanced direct answer to your question.
I got off ggogle, so this is part of the result of a search for the NRA's column, "The Armed Citizen" from info.com:
http://www.americanrifleman.org/BlogList.aspx?cid=25&id=21I strongly believe that anyone interested in firearms should join a pro-2a organization such as the NRA or others, such as GOA, JPFO, SAF, etc. I personally wish I could join them all.
