I can see it now... Liberal news: "If the police, who are trained professionals, can accidentally shoot up innocent people, just imagine the damage the average person can do with guns."

90% of the active forum users go to the range way more often than most of the police officers.

This.  The LAPD is operating in LA, not Iraq.

Maybe there is a reason that this guy is killing LAPD cops?
Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

ok

let me put it this way
i'm not one hundred percent positive i would've followed the 4 safety rules in this situation
so i decided not to judge the officers as harshly as i originally was

Dorner has a growing fan club. Lots of people seem to be unhappy about police misconduct recently. All this pumping of fed money for turning law enforcement into a paramilitary occupational force is having a significant backlash. It's for the same reason why the drone programs will never work. When you maim and kill innocent civilians it turns the whole population against you.

Stats on drone program and you can click on the leaders killed tab too. I'm guessing your view is they will never work because of the civilian casualty ratio? Unfortunately, civilian collateral casualties is a sad reality of the majority of combat operations, and our military leaders don't take that likely and assess the benefit to risk factor from available intel before ordering these strikes. IMHO I believe drone strikes will continue in Pakistan, Afganistan and possibly other countries as long as we are at war with terrorists, who happen to train and hide in those regions.

As you can tell the drones haven't stopped bad guys from showing up though. I wouldn't exactly call the drone program a wild success and when armed drones are used on US citizens it won't exactly win over more people to the side of the federal government.

Personally, I strongly disagree with the murdering of American citizens without trial.  It is just way way wrong.  Anytime you give government bureaucrats that much power, there will be trouble.  They already have too much power as is.

good thing they were delivering newspapers. i wonder how many bullets got stopped or slowed, perhaps saving their lives.
i havent read any of the articles, but i would also like to know what justification they had to open fire. "armed and dangerous" not cutting it

In my opinion the alternatives are more deadly and devastating than using unmanned drones in Pakistan, Afganistan and other tribal areas. While Pakistan helps the U.S. in some operations, it undermines the U.S. in others. Therefore, we cannot simply outsource to Pakistan because there have been too many cases where the Pakistanis have alerted the targets in advance. So the alternative would be to use our military forces in theater to capture or kill these enemy combatants (terrorists), with a high probability of incurring further U.S. military casualties. The majority of drone strikes are conducted in tribal areas or mountainous regions. Edit: U.S. DoD stats on U.S. military casualties in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF): http://www.defense.gov/news/casualty.pdf

On the second point about U.S. citizens. I believe once a citizen of any nationality becomes a terrorist, hell bent on destroying the U.S. and killing as many American's as possible (often innocent civilians and children), they gave up their rights and should now be classified as an enemy combatant and should be treated as such. Just because he is a U.S. citizen, shouldn't change the definition of an enemy combatant. If we are talking about drone strikes on U.S. citizens that are located in known terrorists locations in Pakistan, I would have to assume our intel has definitively concluded they are a terrorist. Now if we are talking about capturing in the U.S., that is an entirely different story. JMHO

I argues with my fellow co workers about this. Not only American citizens but innocent civilians. I questioned soldiers' actions about killing and was accused of siding with insurgents. I think that we are a great country because of our violent precision.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AND THEY THINK I'M GONNA GIVE UP MY GUNS!

I also have a lot of respect for HPD, but like any company, department, Group or "Well Orginized Corporation"

you'll always, always, always have, "The Idiot", "The Loose Cannon", "The I'll Do Whatever I Want"......

When you think about it, everyone thinks living immoral lives is ok now... So this is whats gonna happen now...

More moral laws are being broken and becoming "normal", so it's gonna start to bleed over into our crminal law systems...

My prayers go out to the women delivering newspaper...that totally sucks and angers me.......

Why would they shoot at another vehicle matching the description when they already found his burnt out Titan near Big Bear.

Don't ask questions directed at someone who has already demonstrated deadly incompetence.  Twice.

http://colorlines.com/archives/2013/02/lapd_had_no_idea_who_they_were_shooting_at_in_dorner_pursuit_says_victims_attorney.html
Quote
"In the case with the two women, neighbors say at least seven officers shot at the vehicle, leaving bullet holes in neighboring cars, trees, garage doors and roofs."
So it looks like they hit the truck about 40 times and also shot up the community. :wtf:
Quote
"In a separate incident on Thursday a white male going to surf early in the morning was left with a truck full of bullet holes. David Perdue wasn’t struck by bullets but was injured in the car wreck, suffering a concussion and an injury to his shoulder, his lawyer told the LA Times."
So race nor gender matters here. Just shoot at trucks. Everyone needs a sign like this, hopefully all the officers are literate.
