Hand gun affidavit
« on: February 09, 2013, 03:20:28 PM »
How long does the Life class take to issue the hand gun affidavits? Been waiting almost 4 weeks now. Anyone taken the course received their affidavits yet?

Just asking cause the HPD app will take another 2 weeks..... Any law or pros and cons on getting and registering multiple hand guns at once?

Took my friend almost two months to receive his, but he was in contact with Bill and they had some issues with their notary.

Nothing wrong with applying for and registering multiple hand guns at once (actually makes more sense, less trips to HPD).

Thanks, Bill gave me the same answer issues with Notary. Maybe be they should have a notary sit on the Board or recruit a notary volunteer to expedite the process. 2 months is a long time to wait especially if the LGS is holding your guns...

Don't get me wrong the class is excellent but the wait time to receive the affidavit is a bit ridiculous.

Just saying as other classes get your the affidavit within a week...

I'd actually recommend buy at least 2 hand guns at once. It's such a pain in the ass to buy a handgun in Hawaii that you're better off buying  multiples to make it more worth doing.

Do you go one the ATF watch list if you register more than 2 handguns at once?

I've had 4 handgun permits going through HPD's system, all at the same time last summer.  I have yet to receive some sort of phone call from the ATF or investigation by HPD.   :shake:

I had to wait about 6 weeks for my affidavit from LIFE. Maybe LIFE should get this notary thing straightened out because this could cause them to lose business if word spreads about how slow they are.

Wow 6 weeks.... Do you buy the guns and have LGS hold it for you before you took the class?

Ive heard that if you purchase more then 2 or 3 firearms from the dealer at the same time there is an extra form they have to fill out.

And to all waiting for their affidavit. Im not sure who they use to notarize, or if they have their own person to do it, but sometimes the people doing it can be backlogged or anti firearms so its not really a priority to them. Im sure LIFE is trying their hardest to get it back to everyone as soon as possible.
Perhaps even someone on here or their spouse is qualified to notarize and could provide services to LIFE.

I took the class then bought the gun the next day and they held it for me until I got my paperwork.

This is how we are able to give our certificates at the end of class.

I'm surprised out of all the students no one is a notary.... If only a notary would volunteer, I'd pay an extra $5 to get the affidavit faster..

Anyone know if there is going to be a ban on handguns?

I had to wait 6 weeks for my affidavit also.

99.9% of people that take the class are taking it bc they want to buy a handgun.
I liked that I got to shoot all different handguns,
but I would have liked it a whole lot more if I got my paperwork faster.

Oi, this is really why you guys should recommend and go to the Hawaii Defense Foundation for your Handgun safety class needs.  You get your Handgun affidavit right after the class is done!  I couldn't imagine waiting 4-6 weeks for a peice of paper but then again, we have to wait 2 weeks for a background check from hpd...

The problem is that most people who sign up for the class do so at the recommendation of whichever gun store they are at or whatever they see advertised without knowing some important information, like the selection of firearms to try and affidavit turnaround time. I was fortunate in that my friend told me which class to take, it was only $100 and we got to shoot every thing from a 22LR Ruger MK III to a .50 AE Desert Eagle and we got to keep the .50 AE brass as a souvenir. I got my affidavit in 2 days, it was notarized and mailed out on the Monday after class, I received it Tuesday.

I volunteer to instruct with the LIFE class, but I am not involved with affidavits.  I can tell you that we are all volunteers and that we do try our best to ensure the students get the best possible experience (within our reasonable control).

I have done some handgun safety classes for the affidavit on the side for friends and I can tell you that it can be a PITA to get the affidavits notarized and one of my best friends is a notary that helps me.
