not good.     people laughed at the movie red dawn,  lets see who's going to be laughing soon.

The president, SECDEF, JCS, PACOM ADR Locklear and subordinate commanders in the PACOM AOR and DoD leadership are not laughing and take this very serious. DRPK is a Third World rogue nation that hates the U.S. and if they ever possess a LRBM capable of carrying nuclear payloads, Hawaii will be the intended target without a doubt, if they ever decide to get stupid. Ideally they want to extend their LRBM capability to effectively reach CONUS. Every step they make to forward their BM and Nuclear Programs is a very serious matter that everyone, not just DoD should be concerned about.

I won't discuss this subject in detail but trust me I know more about this subject than you would ever imagine and leave it at that. There is much more to it than meets the eye, sort of speak. But to keep it simple, BMD is a continually evolving technology that started in 2001 and cost tens of millions of dollars for each test event to further the technology to defend ever changing threats in various AORs. FTI-01 cost over $100M (public knowledge)...not cheep stuff. BMD is not perfect but that is the DoD and MDAs goal. Aegis Flight Test Missions (FTM) have not intercepted 100% of the time, nor has GMD been successful 100% of the time. It cost a lot of money to continue to develop this technology and a lot of smart folks working very hard. BMDS programs have completed 56 successful hit-to-kill intercepts in 71 flight test attempts (public domain). Do you feel comfortable with those odds? I wouldn't say Aegis can't intercept ballistic missiles because I've seen it first hand many times, but I wouldn't want to leave it to chance. Also, hardware and software do occasionally fail and operators are human, and sometimes make errors. I would prefer DPRK never has the capability in the first place and continue to develop our BMDS as fast as possible to counter all emerging threats. To top if off, Obama has been cutting the MDAs budget each year.

Identified threats to the US are subject to drone strikes, correct? If so, then nuclear drone strike Pyongyang....or just Kim Jong Un.

im not saying that odds at all are a good thing, but i am saying, its not like there's NOTHING to stop them.  its still fairly good odds.

and in anycase, again, IF.  they even have Russia breathing down their necks now.

look, you can worry all you want, but im being realistic here.  whatever their capabilities are, i dont think even THEY are stupid enough to start something when pretty much everyone on the planet isnt backing them up.

you can tell me that all the commanders are worried, and that's great.  that's their job.  but realistically, i just dont see it happening.  i dont see NK starting a war that just might end their own nation entirely.

i will say this though.  the UN and others need to really stop fucking around with NK and just end their shit.  in other cases of grave human right's abuses, they've put troops on the ground.  why not now?

Kim Jong-un is by no stretch of the imagination a rational leader, and as an example, nobody believed Hitler would do the things he did or could be capable of the atrocities he ordered. Clearly NK is not a stable country, very evident by their actions and propaganda. They do not abide or adhere to the same moral and ethical standards that most do.

Most believe just as you, that they won't, but DoD and even politicians for that matter, will not base U.S. National Security Policy on those kind of assumptions, nor will military leaders develop OPLANS based on unknown unknowns.

My analogy is a candidate making a campaign promise saying what they would do regarding sensitive national security policies or issues, but when they do in fact get into office and see the classified part of the equation, their position completely changes. Just saying that there is much more to the puzzle than meets the eyes, and the general public does not have those pieces required to formulate a comprehension, educated conclusion. JMHO

im not asking DOD to ignore it.  im just saying that i dont think anything is going to happen, in reference to a guy implying that we're going to have a Red Dawn scenario.

that's ridiculous, whether we plan for it or not.  not saying we shouldnt be ready, but its still a ridiculous scenario.

i dont think i need access to classifed material to know that NK as a whole is a clusterfuck, and to think that they probably wont do anything, let alone a red dawn style invasion.  especially not one that we're somehow unaware of.

I never mentioned Red Dawn. We are talking about the threat of North Korea. I will say what you call ridiculous, the U.S. calls OPLAN 5027 and all the associated variants, which is public knowledge but the details obviously are not, and leave it there, agreeing to disagree.

you guys need to lighten up.   The red dawn comment was an exaggeration from a not so good remake of a classic movie.

How desperate does a country have to be to commit "suicide by cop"?  "Cause the leadership of North Korea is never going to admit that their system doesn't work.....
