Bought this WASR a few weeks ago with dark brown furniture. It needed to be refinished and I just got it done. Not a trophy piece-just not the best wood to start with, but I'm happy with how it turned out. It makes me want to refinish all my other "better-wood" guns.

That looks very nice. I like to refinish old rifle wood, too. What kind of stain and/or finish coat did you use?

No stain. It's only tru-oil. Only 4 coats, but the wood felt pretty sealed up and has a nice shine to it. I was planning on more coats and some type of poly coat. But, I was happy with it and didn't need to do more work than that. Looks way better in person than in the pic.

One more question. I've used the Tru-oil, applying with finger and/or small piece of folded cheesecloth... I found both worked "okay". Wondering what method of application you used... I'm thinking maybe there's a better way to do it.  :shaka:
