1. What kind of 12 gauge ammo is used for Trap shooting?

2. I know it's not slugs but can 8 shot game loads be used?

I use light target loads...usually 2-3/4 dram, #7-1/2 or #8 shot.

You can check the Kokohead shooting complex website

http://www.khsc.info/index.php/facilities/trap

For Trap it says No magnum loads or loads with shot size larger than 7 1/2.

Just in case your interested, for Skeet it says Shot size must be number 8 or smaller.

#8 game loads, specifically Winchester Super X, is by far the most common load used.  Why?  Because it goes on sale at Sports Authority and is cheap!

I shoot 7.5 1oz loads.  Seems to work wel enough for me.  Security equipment usually has them on sale for 60 bucks a case of 250.

Exactly, I use this as well as almost every skeet shooter at KKHSC

Update... Got some 12 gauge 8 shot from SA.

I have a tactical shotgun, what are the rules for shooting trap?

Will I destroy the 50 yard target at the rifle range using game loads?
